SIII Latest Firmware (10-21-2025).png

HI. I've been considering upgrading my series III StudioLive mixer to the latest firmware, but was concerned about losing my aux assignments after what Richard Gaspard said in his introductory video. I'm using auxes 1-14, all paired to get 7 independent headphone mixes, and I really would not want to lose that routing. But I'm not using ANY other PreSonus hardware; just the StudioLive into Studio One Pro 7, so I may be misunderstanding what Richard said. Thanks for any clarification you can give me.

Are you referring to this firmware update video?

If so, I think he may be referring to outputs that connect to other SIII ecosystem products...

However to be safe I'd recommend making a backup and also following his advice to document all your current settings.

Exactly, that's the video that had me concerned. I ran into a problem with a previous firmware update that messed up my aux sends and it took me a full day to figure out what had happened. I was hoping to avoid that. But I take your point: I can document everything, and then jump in the deep end of the pool. I was just hoping someone had the same kind of setup I'm using and could advise as to whether the update messed with their settings or not. But I tend to agree; Gaspard seems to be referring to a "PreSonus Ecosystem", not just one device and Studio One software. Thanks for your reply.

Anything unique that required a full day to get those working again?

I updated to the latest firmware and it did require reassigning the inputs/outputs to my NSB 8.8.

Nothing that I'm aware of, but there were a couple problems, one of which was that UC wouldn't allow me to save scenes. I followed the directions on this page as suggested by Jonny Doyle: https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-...USB-ARc-USB-not-connecting-with-Windows-10-11 After that, the assignments were all askew. I had to go into the System settings and turn "Interface Mode" to "ON". I hadn't noticed that when I went into Compatibility mode to solve the UC problem, it disabled the upper input channels of the mixer. After setting to Interface Mode, I had to re-assign my aux routing settings. But full disclosure: I'm not well versed in the inner functions of the mixer. I should take time to learn it, but I figure things out to get it working, and then when it works, it works great, and I forget everything I learned. :(

The key routing benefit of the Milan upgrade is flexibility. Devices that take their clock from the network no longer have to take input stream 1 from the clock 'master' device. Now any device can freely take any input stream from any other device on the network. Well worth the trouble of re-patching the AVB streams for existing projects. It may even allow some routing improvements that were impossible before.
