I would Like To See A Feature Request: Restore the pre-8.1 drag & drop replacement workflow

Since updating to Fender Studio 8.1.1, I found the new drag & drop replacement workflow slowed down one of the most common editing tasks in my workflow.

The change was significant enough that I reverted back to version 8.0.3.111164 purely because of this issue.

My workflow involves auditioning large numbers of drum samples etc. During a session I may replace the same kick, snare or percussion sample dozens or even hundreds of times until I find the right sound.

Previously the workflow was simple:

  • Hold Alt
  • Drag a replacement sample
  • Listen
  • Repeat

Now it requires selecting the target event(s) before dragging a replacement, then repeating that selection every time I want to audition another sample.

For repetitive sample replacement this adds unnecessary steps to something that was previously quick and efficient.

I'm not asking for the new replacement modes to be removed. If other users find them useful, that's absolutely fine.

What I'm asking is for one of the following:

  • Restore the pre-8.1 drag & drop behavior as the default, or
  • Add a preference that allows users to choose between the legacy workflow and the new workflow.

That would allow users who prefer the new behavior to keep it while allowing existing users to continue working with the workflow they originally purchased the software for.

At the moment, the drag & drop changes are the only reason I've reverted to 8.0.3.111164 instead of continuing to use the latest version.
