How to connect 1824c to studio monitors and HP 60

I want to use my 1824c to record my band live. 8 of the band's inputs go into the 1824c. How do I send that signal to studio monitors as well as to an HP 60 headphone amp. I can't figure out what to connect where. And with what (TRS ?). Thanks so much.

The cool thing about modern solid state electronics, as opposed to valve circuits, is that you can actually take a DC coupled balanced OUTPUT and physically "Y" them to two devices [hopefully with input impedance of greater than 600 ohms] without too many issues (other than possible grounding problems) or massive signal level loss... however... the ideal solution would be to use one stereo output pair for the monitors, and another pair for the cue mix feed. Which, IIRC can be done in the UC or in S1.

The 1824c has an 18x8 mixer inside, so that would be stereo main out plus 6 mono auxes (or 3 stereo). The headphone outputs on the front share those outputs (HP1=main, HP2=AUX3/4) so they don't represent extra mix outputs.

Assuming you connect main out with 2 TRS cables to your powered studio monitors you then have the 6 mono auxes to connect to the HP60's 6 Ext. Ins (all set to mono) with 6 T(R)S cables. In the 1824c you then create 6 mono headphone mixes, and one stereo main mix.

A maybe better alternative is to split the 1824's main out to the HP60's Input A too, with 2 TRS cables. On the HP60 that allows you to mix your stereo main mix with the mono Aux inputs for each of the headphone outputs. In this scenario those mono aux mixes from the 1824c must only contain 'me'. So say the bass player only gets bass (and maybe a little kick and snare) in his/her aux mix, for a stereo main mix plus extra mono bass in his/her 'more me' phones output.

NB. Splitting Main couldn't be simpler on the 1824c as the interface's Main signal also goes to Line Output 1/2 (and to Headphone 1). So connect Line Outputs 1 and 2 to HP60 input A, and the remaining 6 Line Outputs to the 6 Ext. In. inputs on the HP60.

Thank you both so much for great responses.

SwitchBack, I'm a little confused. You say there is a 'stereo main out plus 6 mono auxes'. There is a section on the back of the 1824 that has 8 line outputs. And next to that, a section that has a L & R Main Output.

Are you saying that Line Output 1 & 2 are the same as the Main Output L & R? In which case I can send the Main Outputs to my studio monitors, and Ouput 1 & 2 to Input A (L & R) on the HP 60?

Thanks again.

Yes, that's basically correct. L/R main output mirrors 1/2 outputs, so they will have identical mixes & levels.
However, as we both mentioned, creating a mains mix on L/R (1&2) that is different from a HP cue mix on 3&4 may be more beneficial.

Yes, the mixers inside the 1824c together produce 8 output channels. 2 are used for main (L and R) and the other 6 go to line outputs 3-8. They are mono but can be paired for 3 stereo mixes. Make sure you install UC on your computer for the interface's user interface.

And yes, Main, Line outputs 1&2 and Headphone 1 all have the same stereo signal, but output levels can be set independently, I think.
