GM playback

When you look into instant GM playback it seems only Cubase, Mixcraft and Ardour/Harrison as well as Cakewalks Next allow for instant playback of a GM File. Sonar will still do this if you still have the TTS-1 but that was removed a year ago from being installed. Understandable so in the modern world.

I generally just preview downloaded midi files in Media player and if they pan out then I load them into a Daw and replace the instruments with better quality VST's.

But what my question is about is why does Studio one ask if you want to load GM sounds when you open a midi file? Then it switches to 44.1 ( very annoying) and then there is no instruments loaded. Google say's it will use Presence? that's not a GM synth? I tried manually adding it but it doesn't (by defualt?) recognize GM patches.

I then out of curiosity inserted VST synthfont64 using the VST 3 version and the sound was garbled. This a Multi timbrel GM synth which plays just fine in Mixcraft and Sonar Platinum I will try the VST 2 version latter but anyway any feedback on what I might be doing wrong is welcome

The other thing I tried is I have now replaced the MS Wavetable synth with Coolsofts Virtual Midi synth. They are going to kill the MS Wavetable someday soon and so this replaces it for say Media Player. But I don't see it as an external midi device in Studio one.

Update, I downloaded the VST 2 version of VST Synth Font and it works fine. I have emailed the developer to report this.
I just tested it in Sonar, Mixcraft and Waveform again and no problem.
I then tried it again in Studio one and restated etc , nope, garbled sounds. If I swap to the VST 2 version works fine.
