Recently switched from Cakewalk to Studio One Pro 7 and I'm loving it. I've been taking online mixing and mastering courses the past several months. This song is basically my first since migrating from Cakewalk. I'm a newbie at this kind of thing. The technology we have these days is incredible. To be able to create in our homes at low cost and on professional level is simply awesome.

Dude, that is Awesome!! I enjoyed crap out of that. You threw me for a little loop
by having guitar fills in first verse then no guitar fill(s) in second verse.
Wondering, was that on purpose cause, it feels like the guitar fills should be
in second verse instead of 1st verse. Nonetheless great song, great production
IMO. Thanks for sharing 🎤🆒

Fantastic! I love 6/8 rock ballads. Nice vocals. Reminded me of Journey.

Your guitars sound great. Did you use a hardware amplifier in addition to Amplitube or was everything created with Amplitube?

Thanks for listening! Guitar fills in the first verse felt better to me so I just went with it.

Thank you! All electric guitars were just Amplitube. Acoustic was straight into my interface with a little plate reverb.

Bravo!!

That's really amazing. I thought the way you let your guitar scream is only possible when using amp feedback.

Thanks again! To be honest, getting the guitar to sit in the mix was the biggest challenge. I don't really like digital due to the high end fizzy sound and the artifacts. I used a Mesa for the high end cut and a Friedman for the low end and some York Audio IR's. 4 mono guitar tracks, 2 panned left and 2 panned right and one lead track in stereo.

Well done!!!

Great job! I particularly like the vocals. They make it through the dense mix without depending solely on level. That's always tough to pull off, but the strength of the vocals makes it possible.

I listened to "Floating" while I was there, and liked that too.

Thanks for listening! I'm learning a lot about how to use eq let me tell ya. Need to learn how to use dynamic eq properly. Difficult task!

Nice job, and nicely done ballad, Axeman2216. Vocals were strong, with the right character for the song as well. It's always good to hear a heavy ballad, but not drenched in heavyosity (over the top, drowning of tracks). Instruments were positioned well EQ wise, and just a good job!

Don't overlook sidechaining. For example, feed the vocal to the sidechain of EQ inserted in a guitar layers bus. Dip the vocal frequencies in the guitars just a little bit so that the voice can stand out more without having to increase the vocal level.

Yes, I've heard that term quite a bit as I've been learning. I've watched a few videos on the topic. Will definitely experiment! Thanks for the tip!
