Export Mixdown - markers, folders and filenames...

Hi all

I choose the folder location I want my mixdown to write to and see the following (additional) two things happen when ok'ing the mixdown, neither of which I want:-
1. FSP creates a whole new folder for the file at this chosen location, inside which the new export/mixdown file is actually written.
2. FSP also appends my chosen file name with the name of the markers.

Ok, so I checked online help with a search for 'Export Mixdown' to see if these are 'User' adjustable behaviours.

At the section under 'Export Range', it gives a number of options, two of which state (paraphrasing for brevity):-
- when you use 'Export between each Marker', you get a separate file for each range between markers, placing them in folders named after the markers
- when you use 'Export between selected Markers, you choose a pair of markers to denote the range you want exported.

So the first of those options is what I understand I'm currently seeing with my exports. However it's the second of those that I am choosing - yet, here the online help has no mention of the output being placed inside a (newly created) folder or that the resulting filename will be appended with the name of the marker range.

Strange. Any thoughts from others.?

I can imagine this behaviour is currently 'as designed' and not necessarily any sort of bug. But as I say, I'd prefer FSP didn't do either (when choosing 'Export between Selected Markers').

Maybe it's a 'Feature Request'.?

SP creates one Mixdown folder for all mixdowns from the project. The appendixes are to manage overwrites should you decide to mixdown the same range again. Exporting between (selected) markers is still that, no matter if it is one range or all ranges, so SP will append a range indication.

The alternative is to export between Start and End Marker which does not get an appendix, still going to the Mixdown directory.

But I am choosing the (already created) 'mixdown' folder as my output location - sorry, should have said that before.! Yet it still wants to create another folder inside there... which I'd prefer didn't happen.

"Exporting between (selected) markers is still that, no matter if it is one range or all ranges" - No. There is no listing in the drop-down to choose two separate (selected) markers that also encompass other marker ranges in-between - i.e. 'between selected markers' option can only mean consecutive/adjacent marker pairs (as seen from available 'ranges' in the drop-down list).

Maybe I'm wrong/missing something here.?

I see what you are saying about when FSP is managing overwrites (it also offers a prompt to add a '(2)' into the filename part)

Still, I can understand that more (FSP appends the marker names to the filenames) when doing just the 'between each marker' option, because that encompasses all marker ranges (between actual start and end markers, or first to last). But I'd still like a way (as a user choice) of killing that for 'between selected markers', personally...

I often fallback to setting R/L locators and just choosing 'between loop' as Export Range. This way, it writes out to the Mixdown folder as you say but crucially doesn't create an additional folder there to contain the output - and no appended name.!

Ok - I'll live with it...

Ah, I never select a folder for mixdown, which results in SP using the existing Mixdown folder in the root folder of the project, or it creates one if not. So don't select the Mixdown folder itself but select the folder where you want the Mixdown folder (new or existing). Or don't select a folder at all to see the mixdowns land in the Mixdown folder in the root folder of the project.

Did I use the word 'folder' already...

Oh, and regarding Start and End marker: They don't have to sit at the start and end of your project's timeline. You can/should use them in a more dynamic fashion to mark the 'business' export range of the project.
