Editing MIDI notes is a little flaky

Hi all: In Studio One 7.2.0.106240 I'm noticing that when I select a midi note to simply move it or to duplicate it using the Alt key, the note will sometimes disappear. During an editing session I have to press Ctrl-Z too often to get the note back. One thing I see that didn't used to happen (at least I don't remember it happening), is that when I click on a note and hold it down for about 1 second I see (for one single frame long) a "STOP" sign circle followed by a "dotted selection square" in the next frame. These go away if I keep on holding down the left mouse button. I'm wondering if this is related to my problem and I'm wondering what I have to do to keep this from happening. I'm attaching two "single frame" shots that I captured from my screen showing what these look like. If you don't pay attention while you are selecting a midi note you might not see these since they are only on the screen for a split second after keeping the note selected for about a second.

Also, when I select a group of notes I can see that they are selected but then "sometimes" when I let go of the mouse button they become unselected. Then I have to select them again. What a hassle

I've seen flaky things caused by a flaky mouse.
As a test, have you tried using another mouse?

Also, have you checked to see if you're running the latest graphics driver?

Thanks for the replies. I updated everything on the laptop using the Dell SupportAssist app. The problem with selecting MIDI notes and then those notes become deselected seems to have been resolved and it seems that so far the MIDI notes don't seem to disappear like they did before. However, I still have the question about the "Stop circle" followed by the "dashed frame" appearing after holding down the mouse on a note. That still occurs but I don't understand what that is telling me. I do notice that if I click on a MIDI note it will play instantly and I can also see the Master Volume shows that the note played instantly. However, if I click on a note, release it, then click it again, the note sound is delayed and the Master Volume indicator is also delayed, both by about 1 second. That sound and Master Volume delay seems to coincide with the "Stop circle and the dashed square" appearing momentarily. Is this normal behavior? I don't remember noticing this behavior before, but maybe a new neuronal network was just formed in my brain allowing me to notice that particular issue.

Can you try testing with another mouse?
I've had weird issues happen using a flaky mouse.

I tested with a different mouse and everything seems to be the same, no difference between mice

What Windows 11 release are you running?

Edition - Windows 11 Home
Version - 24H2
Installed on - 2/23/2025
OS Build - 26100-4652

Huertaaj, S1's note editor is somewhat flaky or strange (or buggy) and generally somewhat underdeveloped. There're a few feature requests that were never adressed (ie. audition the selected note(s) as long as you hold down a mouse button).

If you play around with the mouse you'll notice that things only happen (or stop happening) after pressing a mouse button for one second or after releasing the mouse button. Another strange example: if you move the mouse just to the lower edge of a note (tool tip appears) then the note editor defaults to moving the target note down (either by simply clicking or by pressing the mouse button for one second).

I just want to rephrase/clarify my previous post (it's too condensed and muddy)

S1 improved the selection behavior in version 7 so that selected notes are highlighted immediately and when a button is pressed (and not when the mouse button is released). I never understood why you need to wait (one second or in this case until a button is released) for something to happen. If I want a certain behavior I can use the modifier keys or switch tools beforehand. Using long press behavior is slow and seemingly ill inspired by touch screen smart phone mechanics.

The one second timeout mechanic matches the audition note behavior. It just stops playing notes for no reason or explicit user action. It's also responsible for the strange/buggy delay of repeated actions Huertaaj is experiencing (Quote: "However, if I click on a note, release it, then click it again, the note sound is delayed.")

S1 moves a note down after clicking if the mouse was hovering over the lower edge of a note. The analogous behavior (note up) doesn't happen for the upper edge in basic (not extended) mode. It's a selection process anyway so automatic note movement makes no sense.
