Depression in the neighborhood

New member
Genre
Electronic
Instruments
Synth, sampler
Effects
Alot of reverb and delays.
Special techniques
Did alot of recording in nature, an editing in studion
One of my lates tracks made with studio 1.

Used stock effects, impact for drums, and a lot of sample editing on the timeline..

Not sure what kind of genre this is. First 2-3 min with slow sounds and lot of samples from my backyards, birds, dog, and rain.
Then it moves into beats, where many drumsounds are rain falling on a my trashcan outside.

this is a descripton of my run with depression. It starts with a nagging voicesound, and a dark humming pad.. This goes thru the song, but the song i filled up with new elements over the "depression" sounds. In the end it just efuria and the depression sound are gone.. This is my story.

Any advice will be noted..

I liked it. Soundtrack-y. The first part with all the ambient noise could be shortened up a bit. The sounds themselves were well done, and I understand you were trying to create an ambience - but the message was understood and needs to get to a point. The rest moves along pretty well. Fix the cigar in the clown's mouth. On a personal note - don't worry so much - life is pretty good or can be - not perfect but it's all we've got.
Cheers!

I liked it also. I also agree with AAV on really most every point, which probably accounts for a lot about a certain vibe from a number of listeners. Of course that has to do with how you're trying to package "Depression in the neighborhood". If its a soundtrack, you could leave it. The first few minutes is "minimalist". Perhaps a genre or music form you're not aware of, I dont know. It was largely more popular around the mid twentieth century. Largely 60's and 70's by Phillip Glass and company. I happen to enjoy it, and oh man, some forms can be really minimal. Lol.

On a whole, the piece has a Soundtrack vibe. If you were thinking of having the listeners get pulled in sooner to the whole body of work here, you "could" shorten the beginning so that listeners dont assume the whole piece has a minimalist style. However, as is, the begining takes the listener into the void or feeling of depression. So on that front, it stands up as a soundtrack. Nice!

So, I'm all in on what you achieved here, barneFar. Keep it up! I give a lot of creedance to originality. What I would be curious about is what you used during more of the synth rythmic patterns about 4 minutes in. It does evolve, so I believe you used some synths here and not just took some existing loops all pre-fab'd. At least that is what I'm hoping. Anyway, do tell.
Thumbs up, from this camp as well as AAV's very good response.

You see, even in the most difficult of times, good can come from even the most depressing feelings, and that is the work you achieved, here. Share more of your musical renditions with other emotions, such as curiosity, love, walking down a road, smelling a flower, etc.
Good and potential stuff, here. 👍

Thx for your words. Yeah i know the intro is a bit long. But it is a part of my story, but i will make another version, where i cut out most of the dog and birds. shorten the intro from 2.30 min to max 1 min. The main point is the "voice" and hummingsound giving a dark impresion.

I have heard minimalistic techno but, not something you describe :) Gonna give Phillip Glass a listen

I mention above, i will make an edit where i shorten the intro. Not everybody has the time to listen to my birds and dog :) So i see the point very clear, and thx for time you both spent on listening to my track.

YI have found my self with showing MY emotions in the music, earlier work i tried to copy other musicans, and that can be good, but i never felt satisfied, and like something missing.
The synth you heard are my mininova i recorded, while trying to evolved the sound. Later i used a simple sound sample from my sons roland S-1 on TExturelab for making the light leads on top at the end.

I am not afraid to show my emotions, and i dont have any depression nagging at me any more. I did my work and found my way. I learnt as long as i do what I want ,then i am always happy. Making music and not be afraid to say no somethimes..

Thx for every word... Have a nice day!!!!

And that is what it is all about, brother. Thank you for sharing your work. I found it an enjoyable listen, and just as much..... refreshing.

Btw, one night (many years back) I was driving home from doing sound here in NYC (very large club I worked at). It was almost dawn, and like many places, that's when the really obscure stuff gets played on the air. I dont know who the artist was, but it was several minutes of the sound of a comb going across the edge of a table. Tah.... tah.. ta....tah....tata...... tah....
I'm talking serious minimalist. I think that's where a lot of people draw the line. ; )

In the end it just efuria and the depression sound are gone.. This is my story.

Musically, I heard a musique concrète type of vibe at the beginning, morphing into the more contemporary world of beats. It's a paradox that when people made musique concrète it was a labor-intensve process, but then it just kind of faded away when synthesizers became commonplace. I wouldn't mind seeing musique concrète pursued more with today's tools, like you have. It's always good to hear music that's not "cookie cutter" sounds, with a more provocative attitude.

My favorite part is in your reply: "i dont have any depression nagging at me any more. I did my work and found my way. I learnt as long as i do what I want ,then i am always happy. Making music and not be afraid to say no somethimes..." That's sage advice. One can learn all kinds of things from this forum :)

Thx mate. Have to say this forum has been a profound experience for me. The reception has been out of this world. Not much, but those who comment here, and sent me PM have made my life better in a way. usually when i have comment on forums, people run you down with THEIR opinions, and want to change me.. Here i been meet with opinions for making my song better, but at the same time you people let me be who i am, and give me credit for my work... So THX everyone

I had never heard of musique concrète. But when i read aboout it, this song fits into that category.. But now when i am finding myself thru music, i use alot of own samplings in my music. And it is just about sampling the "Everyday life" from different perspectives.

Thx for mention about my comment. It means alot to me. I just try tive a positive perspectiv on life, and if it can help someone other than me iam just glad.

So again, thx everyone for all the kind words, and insight to my music and opinions..

Have a great and fullfilled day!!!
