Solved Ampire suddenly sounds very bad.

Re your interface: make sure the input that you’re plugging your guitar into is set to “instrument” and not “mic”. You can
access those settings from the Focusrite software. Also, make sure you’ve got the gain of the input adjusted so it’s not being
overdriven

Yes. All audio from the PC goes thru the interface. I learned something new today -I downloaded and tried Native Instruments Guitar Rig 7 and it sounds just as bad (and has the same "sound") as Ampire. I'm trying to envision what has happened to my Windows 10 based PC. I don't think the problem is in the software or the interface. Which is really disturbing given the time and $ I have spend trying to solve this.

Windows is known to reset settings, especially audio devices. Make sure that the Windows audio device settings match the settings for SO. For example, if you use 48K in SO, make sure the setting is also 48K in Windows. This way the interface won't get reconfigured every time the focus for the audio device changes.

This *one* of the reasons I use separate audio devices for SO and Windows.

BTW, IMO GR7 is a great plug.

I just wanted to update this as "Solved" - the problem was the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. It was solved via substitution. Luckily I had an older, functional audio interface to test for solving the issue. Without subbing this unit I doubt I would have solved it.

Interesting. About 18 months ago I was using a Focusrite 8i6 that started to not play well with Studio One. I too tried everything I could think of, including updating all drivers at the Focusrite site for that unit. Eventually one of the UA devices went on sale,I upgraded and problem solved.

The interesting thing was that the issue was only present on some things on the PC like Ampire and GuitarRig7....I "thought" I might perceive some odd sound/gritty highs on my EZ Drummer as well but it was very odd and hard to detect. All other Windows audio from like YouTube or videos was reproduced perfectly. It seems to manifest the issue only when using Studio stuff.

Again, I'd never have found it if I had not stopped in here and bounced it off all ya'll for advice and then stopped being frustrated about it and started thinking hard. Without subbing the Audio Interface, I would not have solved it.

Maybe it is an input gain problem (too high)

Nah...that was the very first thing I checked. It was a defective interface.
