Solved About the VU Meter

My Studio One Plus subscription just expired a few days ago, and I haven't renewed it yet. But I noticed something strange: the Presonus VU Meter has also disappeared.

I couldn't find it on the official website's Plugins & Add-ons page, nor on the 'My PreSonus' page. I also checked PreSonus Hub, and still couldn't find it.
I'm sure it is a free plugin, not a paid product, because I downloaded it back in the days of Studio One 6 and was excited to share it with my friends.

So my question is, where can I redownload and use the VU Meter?

In addition, I have a small confusion: since it's a free plugin, why isn't it built into the DAW like the Level Meter?

I sincerely hope someone can help me resolve this issue. Thank you.

Mine is sitting squarely on My Presonus listing:

I am a perpetual user - which should not make a difference. For what it's worth - I added this plugin to my account in 2015.

You may need to check with Presonus - if this plugin somehow became associated to your subscription - and that sub is now expired - you can see why you do not have it.

I checked my Presonus page again. I only have 8 effect plugins, and there is no VU meter among them.

Not sure what else to check - however IF you had this thing installed like 5 days ago - it should be on your machine. Should not actually need an installer.

Mine is sitting under Documents\Studio One\Installer. Look for a file called VUMeter.win.install. (Could be named differently on a Mac)

Also - you did not mention what state your S1 is in right now. If your sub is done - are you running Perpetual? And if so - what is going on over here: (Studio One->Installation)

Thank you for the information. I checked DocumentsStudio One, but didn't find it.
Then I looked in several other possible locations for Studio One installers. I found other plugins like Sub Zero, but still couldn't find the VU meter.
It's also not in the built-in downloader of Studio One.

However, I did find it in the built-in store, but I can't do anything with it.

Sounds to me like you never had it all then.

The end of a subscription does not sudden remove plugins from your hard drive.

You need to discuss this with Presonus.

My subscription is for one year, and I own the permanent version of Studio One Pro 7. Now my Studio One is also running normally and is not a demo version.
It just lacks the mix FX and some samples, as well as the VU meter.

Maybe I accidentally deleted something? But what's done is done, and I want to know how to re-download this free plugin.

FWIW the TBProAudio mvMeter2 is really good, and it's free. However, it doesn't open a thumbnail in a mixer channel if you expand it. To me, that's the standout feature of the PreSonus VU Meter.

I used the Presonus VU for a couple of years early on but once I found the VUMT Deluxe by Klangheim - there was no contest.

VUMT is also a very good plugin. If I can't download the Presonus VU Meter again, I think I will consider buying it or continue using mvMeter2.

Being able to see the PreSonus VU meter in the Mixer channel micro-edit view is so helpful when gain-staging. I hope you can get it back, even if you also use other meters that have more features.

I have got them all but the best and the closest ballistic to the real thing is the Waves VU. I have the real deal (very expensive VU's) and when you see how nicely they move you realise how many of the others are not in the same ball park. But Waves is very close though. But the Waves does not open up like Craig suggests though which is a pity.

The Presonus meter does not have any K System ref levels such as -14 and -20. I wish they would put those in.

I also use theTBProAudio mvMeter2. Particularly, when turning away for long durations as it has a peak needle. But Craig's visual on gain staging is very useful in such cases. After all; you just need to get a grasp on levels between some stages when necessary. For best Ballistics, I still just like the Klanghelm VUMT. They just feel right to me. Reminds me of my Revox A77 MkIV I had years ago. That perfect ano-lag. : ) In the final analysis, I always reach for the TBProAudio mvMeter2, because of that sweet true peak needle. I also like residing on the Master, the Presonus level meter for K metering, and Youleen which has been a staple for years on the Project Page.
I haven't seen any issue though missing the Studio One VU. It was a freebie very early on around version three-ish. Been there ever since.
I probably should spring for the VUMT Deluxe like VP has. Whatever you choose, and where you use them, be consistent where they best serve you. That will likely vary. Don't forget to check their levels once in a while, how they react to power in low frequencies (power), and so on.

It's like this: for a while, I have been hoping that Presonus could update its VU meter and give it more features, after all, the convenience of not having to open a separate window is really great. But now I have to wonder if Presonus might be abandoning this plugin, because it has disappeared from their official website. Honestly, I really hope it can be updated and improved, and even join the ranks of built-in effects.

Thank you for the tips. Most of the time, I place the VU meter on my main track as a reference, especially when I need to do gain staging track by track. At this time, the advantage of the Presonus VU meter is really obvious, which is also why I miss it.

Yeah, there's another simple, and effectively useful way, development towards Studio One would be beneficial. That, and a true channel strip that resides on channels with controls all visible, unlike the Fat Channel. Full functioning metering, and full functioning channel control. What a concept. 👍
We can hope.

Maybe something like SSL 360 or Reason? That might also be good; sometimes changing the approach can bring a lot of different inspiration.
