- Genre
- Rock
- Instruments
- A lot
- Effects
- Vocal reverbs are either the venerable Quantec Yardstick or the long forgotten Korg GR-1 spring reverb. A low serial number Klon was used. It’s fine, I guess
- Special techniques
- Bass was DI through a zod and smashed into an Ashly SC50. Sounds great without an amp.
- Released when
- Few days ago.
Did a massive double album for a band I really like. They were sort of jammy and a bit prog but worked with me because they wanted to get away from being pigeonholed as a jam band, which is a genre I do not dabble in as an audio engineer. I think it worked.
Recorded in week one on a big API Classic with Metric Halo converters, direct into studio one and week two on a Digico s21 at a concert hall for all brass, winds, and strings. I love that, despite a few songs reaching over 6:00 and 70 tracks, no songs had more than but a few plugins. Relied heavily on outboard and the idea of getting it right going into the box. It was a genre bender for me for sure. On the song What Lies I was allowed to go full So-era Lanois and on Use Me we dialed up some crazy reverbs and went nuts.
Also features some heavy hitters. Mike Robinson from Railroad Earth and Oliver Craven from Sierra Ferrell make guest appearances and they are incredible.
It’s available on all streaming services, so listen wherever you’d like. But I encourage you to poke around the album either at the link or at your favorite site; there’s a lot and it’s quite good.
