Trim space off beginning of MIDI Recording

Hi guys, when I record say a midi event..like a note, the recorded clip will always have space before the recording.. which is normal.

How do I setup studio one so that the space before the first note is automatically trimmed so the clip begins right on the first note?

I want to record a lot of melodic ideas and replace them in specific places in my piece of music, but the space before the notes like I have to keep trimming to make them fit..

Im not at my computer but I am pretty sure that won’t matter if you are in the correct mode for editing. Not sure what Studio one calls it but it would be “ blend old with new “ in Sonar.
It sounds like you are using “move over and make room for me”

Then it won’t matter if there’s a blank space as the clips will simply overlap.

Worth trying, there's always preparing your punch-in to get initial notes in a little earlier. You may likely be getting that gap from when you start to play, from no retrospective lead in. Punching in will help allow for a little more readiness. A precount while helpful, wont always get notes initially on time. Sometimes (style deoending of course) a little early or late also sets an interesting groove or pocket, such as with blues, R&B, or jazz. So I'm admittedly a little less chasing that first note to be right on zero, but I also get the need for having it, at times. Just sayin" try punch in, or basically a retrospective approach.

Hmm looks like there's no way to remove the gap unless I time it right. I guess I'll have to record a clip and then trim it manually. I know there's a shortcut to trim it to the cursor from beginning or end. Anyone know how to select the first note of an event?

You could quite easily setup a macro for this I think?

You can just hit [tab] for that...

Listen closely when you trim off the gap to the first note. I've had first notes not trigger that way in the past. Probably not an issue anymore but good to be aware of the possibility of it happening, maybe depending on VST/instrument too.

There's actually a "Crop to Content" command that does this automatically.
