Setting default velocity in pattern editor?

Hey folks,

Is there a way to change the default velocity in the Pattern Editor? I know you can change the default velocity in the Part Editor, but I haven't found a way to do the same for Patterns. Forum search, S1 manual, etc. haven't yielded any insight.

Many thanks!

Best,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Not that I'm aware of. However you could click and select all notes (Control + A), then in the pattern editor, go to the Actions Menu, and set a global velocity. Maybe not the process you hoped for. There are also settings in the macro toolbar that you could leave open and always select all notes, or the group of notes you'd like to change. Pretty fast and easy. FWIW.

Thanks for the input. Curious why Presonus wouldn't include that option; may be that the backends of Parts and Patterns differ in some way that makes it more of a technical challenge for Patterns? Eh, such is the way.

Problem is that you can't select notes in the Pattern Editor, and it has no Action menu.

Right, right. While I knew PennyZero [OP] mentioned pattern, I somehow jumped tracks thinking of event. Which would involve a merge before getting those notes, not to mention losing the pattern all together. Thanks for the correction Lukas.

Indeed, such is the question why a little more user settings towards default velocity (ehm... a really important thing!) Wasn't implemented with this. I'd sure like to see this, and we might even have the right ears listening. I know every single time I set up a pattern, I'm always adjusting levels. Because the default setting is simply too rigid.
So true.

Another possibility of course is using a more serious pattern pad controller like the Atom SQ, where you could trigger that velocity giving way to more control. Just saying, as I tend to look for what else is available. I use the Atom SQ this way and I think Gregor in his 3 part Atom SQ video touches on that. Briefly though.

It's an absolutely valid feature request. The reason it's not implemented isn't technical, but rather due to how product management has traditionally operated. A feature like this would normally be part of a larger Pattern Editor update - and there simply haven't been any such updates recently. Random, isolated small feature additions aren't something PreSonus usually does.
