Realtime Audio Support Error

Hello

does anyone know what this red skull Error Message means.
I tried to start S1 as Administrator, but this does not change anything.

Audio works in S1, but I try to find the cause of High CPU usage and found this Error. No idea if it's even relevant.
But red skulls usually scare me. And maybe it was there all along, never looked into this Message View before.

Thx
Rob

Do you have the latest driver for the RME Babyface Pro?

ah cool there is one from 5.5.2025 v 1.271
thx
lets try it out.

but i don't have high hopes, at least from the release notes. but lets try it out.
edit: yeah same error. but thank you for pointing the new driver out.

Code:
V 1.271 (05/05/2025)
- Installer now includes the required VS runtimes

New in TotalMix FX 1.99:
- Talkback routing not correct when Trim had been deactivated
- Fix crash when Talkback source was set back to None
- Added Aux devices for the HDSPe AoX (not relevant for the USB driver)

Hopefully the updated driver fixes the error.

I use my DAW laptop in two locations: at someone's house where my recording equipment resides and at my own place for mixing. After a recording session I turn off and unplug my audio interface, which I do not bring home with me while mixing. So when I get back home and fire up my computer to mix, I get the red skull because S1 is attempting to read for my interface that is not plugged in. In that case, I ignore the red skull because I can mix without my interface. But I appreciate S1 pointing out that a device I use is missing.

OP, after checking the photo in your first post, I think the red skull may be related to the yellow triangle. The MIDI device is not plugged in so S1 may be trying to read it so it can set the 'realtime thread priority...' whatever that means.

I would shut down S1 completely, plug in the acuna88 device, turn S1 back on, and see if the yellow triangle and red skull are both still there.

so the driver update does not change anything.
but its always good to have the latest, until things get worse and start to break.

thank you hieroglyph, I like your thinking.
but unfortunately it does not change it.
also the accuna88 is a usb midi device only, no audio.

where can i reset the audio devices listed in the S1 setup?
i removed audio devices directly in windows but they stay in S1

would be easier if S1 says what exact audio device can't activate this realtime stuff.

As a test regarding the error, I would select "Windows Audio", then quit Studio One and restart it to see if the error goes away.

same error, as soon as i switch to another audio interface, the error comes up in the message window.
i also deinstalled all additional asio/audio drivers and also the rme babyface.
and also my windows realtek audio driver.
than with no audio interface installed, the error goes away.
but S1 also says there is no audio interface, sounds logical to me :)
then installed only the babyface and the error comes up again.

i also tried to set the process priority in windows taskmanager to realtime for studioone.exe and firefaceusb.exe
doesn't help either.

so no idea what this is all about.

presonus support also not really interested in solving the case.
don't know why it is so hard to get a direct info about this error from the developer themselves.
i mean someone must programmed this error into S1.
or they like red skulls, don't know.
is there a red skull football team, maybe a Easter egg?

i also can use the Z button with my RME Babyface and go down to buffer 48 for 1ms on 48kHz/32bit.
so no idea what this message even means.

and is this normal, 20% cpu usage with one arturia synth.
5 synths and my system dies haha
and the cpu usage in taskmanager says 2%

maybe its finally time for a new pc or another cheaper hobby.
i could learn a analog instrument, that does only need my brain power.

so here some update from presonus support and the dev team.
don't know what I should do with it but at least I have my error message explained somehow.

The required amount of realtime threads to match the amount of CPU cores could not be obtained.
Windows has a certain limit of realtime threads and if you have a lot of CPU cores it can happen that this resources are used by other components.
Our audio-processing requires that all threads must be balanced so if Windows does not give us the required resources, we must use a fallback. In this case all priorities are set to a slightly lower level.

I wondering how all these cinematic people handle the immense amount of plugins in their monster templates with S1 and what machine they use.

thx
i will read through it

also found this thread here

and this link from lukas

when i have time and lust for fiddling around.
for now i know the limitations i have with S1 and work with that
