Periodic hangs in Studio One 7.2.2 (Mac 13.7.8)

7 has been working flawlessly for me on my M1 Pro laptop for months, but in the last week or two it's developed a regular "hang". Playback stops for about 4 or 5 seconds, then it stutters back to life with a full CPU meter and a red overload light. During the hang, the interface isn't responding to any clicks, it's totally locked up.

Stuff I've tried so far :

Updating plugins
Uninstalling previous versions
Updating OS version to 13.7.8
Uninstalling unused / trial plugins
Increasing buffer to 4096

I'm mixing at the moment, so it's only a mild, private irritation. But I'm going to be tracking in the next couple of weeks and it could be fatal.

Anyone had anything similar start happening recently?

Full specs :

S7 Pro 7.2.2
Macbook Pro 2021 M1 Pro / 16GB RAM
Audient ID14 interface
Projects running from a fast SSD

Many thanks, people

Is your buffer size really 4096

Increasing Buffer size to 4096? Are you talking about the Device Block Size? If so, it's likely to big. Try lowering
it to 1024 or 512 and see what happens

I changed the buffer (yes studio one calls it device block size) to the maximum because it was hanging at 1024.
Seems like you may have something else happening. I think I would try different Block sizes (lower)
then see what happens. Recently, we had a member that was having similar issues. He updated to
latest MacOs and that fixed his issues but, if you think about upgrading don't go to Tahoe yet. Maybe
Sequoia if you decide to do so. If no one else chimes in with ideas then a Support Ticket may be needed 🖖

This should not be the question. It's about your issue on your system :-)

Question 1: In the Performance Monitor you can see which exact plug-in causes which CPU load (the value does not exactly mean CPU load, but anyway). Is there a certain plug-in that stands out?

Question 2: Do you have Efficiency Cores enabled in the Options? If yes, does it make a difference if you disable them?
