Is it possible to replicate pan-per-note behaviour in S1?

Hi all,

I've been a S1 user for about 4 years now, switched to it from FL Studio.
One thing I really miss about FL Studio (apart from its piano roll) is the ability to pan-per-note.
If it's not clear, it's the ability to put two notes on the same beat, pan one to hard left, and pan the other slightly right.

It's used a lot in contemporary R&B and trap, especially while programming hi hats, actually, and it was really easy to do in FL.

Right now, I have to use 2 or 3 different tracks to do this, and it becomes tedious to program it, obviously. I wish to be able to do it in one track only.

Since there are wizards in this forum -looking at you, Lukas :)-, I wanted to ask if it's somehow possible.

Using automation is not an option because it pans all of the notes when triggered.

Thanks.

Use Impact and copy the hi hat presets to unused pads so you can pan each pad separately. Or just add/use clip pan automation (not track automation) in the midi editor.

(I'm not Lucas but this solution is somewhat obvious. Maybe I'm missing something.)

Yeah I did that but the problem is I want the hi hat on a sampler not in Impact because I want to use the hi hat sample chromatically.

I mean you can also do chromatic setup in Impact by assigning 16 pads to same sample and pitching them but it's also tedious and not I'm looking for.

There is an old feature request to merge Impact and SampleOne. Maybe PreSonus will do this someday.

Clip pitch automation might be a bit tedious but it's your best shot if you don't want to use 12 chromatic pads.

This won't work in any DAW with 3rd party plug-in - not even in FL Studio. Samplers are controlled via MIDI and in MIDI there's no pan per note (except by using non-standard MPE solutions). Panning is always per channel so will affect all notes...

The reason why this works in FL Studio is that they have a built-in sample player that directly talks to their sequencer.

I'm coming back to this post: what's so tedious about it? The notes in the Midi editor match the pitch and order if you set up your 12 pads properly. I can't imagine a better approach than this. And you can also pan each pad separately. A bit of setup time won't make it tedious (and you can save it for later use).

It's not just their sample player. The FL Studio piano roll interacts with all of their built-in instruments in a similar way, which means you can have cool extra functionality in the piano roll like Slide and Portamento. The piano roll and the Harmor instrument are the only reasons I ever use FL Studio. The mixer and much of the rest of the UI drive me mad but that piano roll is just so fast and slick. But we're in a happy world where we can use multiple DAWs and choose our favourite bits of each. S1 is my main ride and pretty much everything ends up there but I also use FL Studio, Live and Reason.

@OP, have you tried using FL Studio as a plugin to Studio One? The plugin is pretty much the entire program so you can have as much or as little stuff in there that you want. You can even load an entire FLS project into the plugin. You could do all of your drums that way or just the hats.
