Solved Gear symbol in corner of audio clip?

What does a gear symbol in corner of an audio clip mean?

It means that the audio is converted, for example from a different sample rate or timestreched.

Note that there are differences between events and clips. What you show on the screenshot is an event, not a clip.

They are called Event Icons and there are a whole bunch of them. They are explained in video and text halfway down this page:

When the Gear Wheel Icon appears, this can mean one of three things:

  • Time stretching has been enabled.
  • The clip has a different sample rate than the rate your song is set to.
  • You have changed the transpose or tune value of the clip.

I wish I could make the icons bigger, because they are too small to see clearly on my screens. They definitely need updating for modern high res screens.

Thanks all.

I did play with the Event's Speedup parameter. BTW, since the default value is 1.00, isn't that parameter misnamed? Taken literally, that would mean playback at double the speed. Maybe it should be called Speed. Can we get a third digit after the decimal point?

Yes, the icons could be bigger, as they are a bit small to see. It would be nice somehow to see why the symbol is there. Maybe a tooltip, which is provided for on a great many things that appear on the screen in S1.

Tooltip is a brilliant suggestion. (y)
