External Instrument setup - clarification on what 'get's saved' in Studio Pro

I've set up an external instrument to work with Studio Pro (XV-5080). I'm attempting to use it as an 8 part multi-timbral sound source, using 8 MIDI channels, and for a variety of reasons, Parts 1&2 (receiving MIDI ch's 1&2), are assigned to the XV's outputs 1&2 as a stereo pair. Part 3 receives MIDI ch 3, and is routed to output 3, part 4 receives MIDI ch 4 and is routed to output to 4 ...etc. up to output 8.
I've pulled one instance of the XV into Studio Pro (SP) arrange window ...SP created a track for me, and I then duplicated the track 7 times, and then set Trk 1 to MDID ch 1, Trk 2 to 2 etc up to Trk8.
I then opened the XV editor, went to the output tab, and created 7 aux channels ...(the first being a stereo channel, the other 6 being mono channels).
I highlighted the 8 XV tracks, packed them into a folder track, then created a bus channel from the folder track.
After linking each of the tracks with the correct aux channels, I have each track responding to the correct MIDI input, and each track is properly routed to the expected aux channel in the mixer ...and open/close of either the folder track or the folder icon on the bus channel in the mixer...hides/unhides as expected.
After saving the song, and also saving it as a template, upon re-opening the song, the XV track layout is intact, but they are all routed to aux channel 1 (which would be the default stereo out that is likely generically associated with any external synth ...my guess). The careful routing to the other aux channels is gone though.
When I manually re-establish Trk 3 audio to out 3, Tk 4 audio to out 4 etc...all the aux tracks pop back into view, and the open/close functions of the folders works again. Is it possible to get confirmation that this multitimbral multi-out setup for an external instrument ...within a song ...should actually save and recall correctly, or it there a limitation I'm bumping into because I'm trying to do this with an external instrument?
(PS ... don't get me started on 'just save it as a track preset' ...AI will dance you for hours on that ...at least for me, on this specific setup I'm hoping to lock into place.)
