Solved Don't use mono or mono to stereo plugins with S1?

I'm getting back up to speed and bought v7. I seem to remember that in older versions of S1 we weren't supposed to use mono or mono to stereo plugins due to the internal structure of the program.

Is that still the case?

Basically, what I'm asking about is if the mono tracks should use a mono plugin, or if mono to stereo plugins work on a regular track. Or, do I load stereo plugins on a mono track, and they'll act like mono plugins if the track is switched to mono. I assume that busses, aux, and fx channels are still stereo only.

There was a long thread about this on the old forum, but I can't look it up.

Mono Audio with Mono Track:
  • If the track mode is mono, a mono-to-stereo or stereo effect will output as mono
  • If the track mode is stereo, a mono-to-stereo or stereo effect will output as stereo
Mono Audio recorded into one channel of a Stereo track (e.g., audio in the left channel, nothing in the right channel):
  • Mono-to-stereo effect will output as stereo
  • Stereo effect outputs as stereo, but the original audio remains in only the left channel. For example, stereo reverb will have a stereo image, but if you go for dry sound, it will be only in the left channel because there's nothing in the right channel.
Here's what I recommend:
  • If you have a mono audio file in a mono track, change the track mode to stereo and ctrl+B the Event. Then it turns into dual mono and works with anything.
  • If you have a mono audio file recorded in one channel of a stereo track, change the track mode to Mono and ctrl+B. Now the audio is true mono. Change the track mode to Stereo, and ctrl+B again. Now the track is dual mono, and works with anything.
Hope this helps!

Thank you, Craig! I copy pasted this to a file I'll keep on the desktop.

Exactly what I wanted to know, and I appreciate it.

A track that was originally mono with a mono recording can be switched to stereo mode. At this point the output will still be mono but the moment you insert any stereo effect over this the result will be stereo. eg a recording starts off as mono but ends up as stereo.
