Dolby Atmos LFE crackles & sync issues

Hi everyone,

I’m starting a new thread because I’m running into a pretty annoying issue when mixing in Dolby Atmos with Studio One.

Whenever I bring up or automate the LFE channel, I get crackles / clicks during playback.
On top of that, it sometimes happens that tracks suddenly play out of sync, even though everything is perfectly aligned in the arrangement.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with Dolby Atmos in Studio One 7 / FSP8?

In my opinion, Studio One’s Atmos implementation really needs an update.
Dolby Atmos feels like it has been neglected a bit in recent versions.

Looking forward to your experiences or suggestions.
Thanks!
Bizzy

There have been problems with distortion involving Objects going back to Studio One 6.6. I had a support ticket going for a while back then, but it was never resolved. Does your mix have any plugins on the main output channel? That seemed to be a possible factor, but again, AFAIK it was never really fixed.

Anyway, I switched to Cubase for Atmos mixing because of their better Atmos features (more capable panner and 2.0 Direct re-render especially), and Steinberg's apparent commitment to ongoing Atmos support (check out the new WaveLab 13.0).

When you say, "Dolby Atmos feels like it has been neglected a bit in recent versions", I'd go further and say Atmos has been TOTALLY neglected. After the initial release, Presonus added 7.1.4 composite beds and Apple Spatial monitoring -- that was great, but that's about it. It's like they checked a box saying "Studio One does Dolby Atmos" and figured "OK, that's done." After the Apple Spatial addition, there has been NO mention of Atmos in any S1/FSP release notes.

I mean, you can do perfectly good Atmos work in Studio One, but I think Cubase and ProTools take Atmos support to another level.

That sounds about right to me.

On which page can I open a support ticket?

The binaural mix and the Dolby Atmos mix start at different times after export, unlike the stereo mix. What a crap!

Yeah, I have had issues as well as plug compensation issue when working in Dolby Atmos since Studio One released their internal Dolby Atmos renderer. When I start and stop the song there's a blip noise. I just continued using the external Dolby Atmos Renderer app which also has the added benefit of using the Music Panner Plugin. I also contacted PreSonus support at the time but they were no help at all. Pro tools still has the best internal renderer IMHO.
