Console not following track selection when using track duplicates?

Hi, new forum member - I did search for existing related questions but couldn't find anything.
- if I'm posting in the wrong place, please let me know -

I've been using Studio One Pro since version 2, I'm no guru but I know my way around OK.
I've just noticed, after all these years, that when I select a track that is a duplicate, the duplicate tracks do not affect the Console selection.
Note: Nnot a normal instrument track, but a copy of a that track with separate events but the same instrument, created by right clicking a track header and "Duplicate Track" (NOT "Duplicate Track and Instrument"

So, if I click on one of the duplicate (sub) tracks, the respective main instrument channel is not selected in the console.
There is a "Track" key command "Show in Console" which does what I need, but I'm looking for this to follow the sub-track automatically in the console, not via a keystroke.
Is it not possible to have the console follow duplicate (sub)tracks of the main instrument track automatically?

Thanks in advance.

First: Welcome to the forum! 🙂

Second: You did not include the Studio One version you’re using in your signature, although there is a notice reminding you to do so when you create a new thread. It really helps when posting in the Community Support forum.

Third: You only get a 1:1 relationship between track and channel selection if you have exactly one Instrument Track assigned to one Instrument Output Channel. If you have several channels for the same instrument, you can assign tracks to channels via the Output settings in the Track Inspector. However, if you have several tracks but only one channel (for example, different versions of the same instrumental performance, or if you prefer to spread different drum instruments across multiple tracks for clarity), then yes - this is the default behavior of Studio One / Studio One Pro.

I also have a video on this topic, but you might already be familiar with what’s explained there:

First of all, thanks and re comment about signature = now corrected.
So, I have stumbled upon something that I should have known for literally years - just never noticed before.
I quite often audition takes, or just move events to duplicate tracks for a variety of reasons.
It strikes me as counter-intuitive to not follow the console based on the master track when selecting any of its sub-tracks (duplicates) because why would not NOT want the console to select the mixer channel for all of the tracks that send to it?
I realise that's a point for Presonus (or should I say, Fender).
I assume, other than manually via key command, there's nothing I can do to force the behaviour that I'm suggesting should be the default?

That's correct, you can't change the existing behavior. But I wonder why you necessarily need the channel selection. The track is still linked to the instrument (output) channel, so if you have the Inspector open, you can select any of these tracks and access the mixer channel via the Inspector, including channel volume, insert effects, sends etc.

Because I use both Softube Console 1 and in fact, Presonus' own Faderport.
It is critical that the selected track shifts focus to the correct main instrument in the Studio One console/mixer because that alone determines what channel the hardware send/receives on.
Where this becomes problematic is if I have say 5 duplicate tracks, if I click onto a different instrument track, the hardware focus follows to the new track (and fader physically moves on the Faderport)
So then if I click back on anything other than the main instrument of the track with duplicate sub tracks, the focus stays on the last channel of the last selected instrument and does not move to the channel of the sub-track I have clicked on.

I guess a key command will have to suffice, I don't understand why the set behaviour is better than what I'm looking for. Perhaps it's just an oversight.

I can say that this behavior is by design (it has been like that since we released version 3), but I agree that if you're using controllers that rely on channel selection, this can be problematic.

Just for my understanding: How do you use these multiple instrument tracks feeding into a single instrument? Are these different versions, or do you use these tracks for MIDI comping?

Mainly for different versions, or "out takes". I'm not a great keyboard player and often have to save irregularly good recordings which creates clutter on a single track.
I tried to find out about multi take midi (layers?) recording in Studio One but it immediately seemed exclusive to audio and then I got distracted.
