Hiya folks,
just thought I would put this here for folk with these headphones to pick up on.

Often when mixing on headphons I set my stereo and panning, but when listening via my speakers find the stereo field does not translate.
This I understand as hearing both speakers in both ears, with headphones the channels are seperated in your ears and present a different listening environment to a pair of studio speakers in a room.

By any miracle does it allow someone to change the L/R mix frequencies to compensate for differences between ears that would show up in an audiology test?

No I'm afraid not, basically it's attempting to give a sense of speaker placement through earphones.
Do you have (Tinitus) or age related hearing difficulties. I do.

Use case.
I set up some extreme panning in a mix, then listened to that with my speaker setup. The extreme panning through the speakers does not achieve that same extreme L/R as with headphones. With the plugin engaged it's almost the same audio panorama as I get from the speakers in the room.

Do you have a set of Beyer DT headphones by any chance, as it's a freebie so no cash pain?
Also, there's a promo video on the linked website above that explains to some extent why it might be useful...

I have some hearing loss which isn't uniform, one ear is worse. It's less of an issue in my case cause I don't do my own final mixes. It doesn't really interfere with my ability to write, perform, arrange or produce, though I imagine it might still be at least somewhat helpful to have my hearing optimized if some similar program could compensate for certain compromised frequencies and iron out the volume difference between ears.

No Beyers here, I just own Sennheiser HD600 and a set of Sony 7506 which is too mangled to use between the ear caps and the cable which always get trashed. The closed backed phones for tracking I have my eye on are an unusual choice: Pioneer DJ phones, of all things, HDJ-X7. A buddy has them and I really enjoy the presentation at the price point despite the fact very few people use them for tracking.

Well the Sony are well respected, I used them for almost 2 decades and still have them (rotted ear cup fabric), nice one.
The Sennheiser I have no experience of, or the Pioneer which I couldn't coment about either, but If you are happy why not.

The Beyerdynamic app is free and seems to work well. I have another app I paid for - but this one is good.

Not really. The Sonarworks ID is geared more toward obtaining a flat or frequency correction, or room correction with a calibrated Mic and running a series of measurments to capture the room acoustics.

This little plugin creates a speaker setup or listening room in your earphones. The speaker positions are well defined. It's very realistic.
It is brand depenedent, so if you don't have Beyerdynamic headphones it may not be of any use.

The Beyerdynamic app is free and seems to work well. I have another app I paid for - but this one is good.

I assume you have some of their headphones so are able to select a profile?
I had mine given to me as a payment in kind for helping out an old friend, nothing to expensive, but they are very comfortable to wear and the sound is reasonably clean and having this little plugin is a real bonus.

The second element is the studio speaker simulation which brings in an element of crosstalk and offers a variable room simulation to more closely resemble a ‘monitors in a treated room’ experience for those who aren’t in one.

Yes, that's a very concise and clear way of describing the plugin.

If you have a pair of Beyer headphones it's worth giving the plugin a whirl (try it out). If you have an expensive set, yes they have a serial number for that exact pair and a specific factory adjusted calibration curve.

The experience of a treated room possibly/yes, let your ears be your guide. I know I have low end standing waves. Which is not there when listening through the headphone plugin. Anyway it will hopefully give me a new or different constant to judge mixes by. Listening to mix material through diffrerent speaker setups over time should tell.

Waves NX (it's been a while) did Freq Resp and positioning to emulate speaker placement. I also use(d) ARC by IKM for room correction for monitors.

The Beyer tool looks pretty good if you have their headphones

Yes - I have the DT-990 Pro 250 ohms - and they have most of the Beyer models.

I have the DT-880 Pro, it's a nice bit of customer support. Do the DT-990's have a serial on the adjustment fitting?
I wonder at what price point the specific profiles kick in.

Anyway good folk are aware it's available.

I should add it’s only for the Mk2 versions - the Mk1s aren’t included at all (as @Aifu noted above).

I've been using it for tone correction with my DT700 Xs while tracking. I like it. Sounds better than my previous headphone fix based on the data from AutoEQ.app. I mean, it had better since it comes from the headphones' manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, AutoEQ is great, but this specific fix is better.

Realphones is another good one. You can get super deep with all the room emulation settings & HRTF etc.
