Solved Why is the sustain pedal called cc 64:0

Hello everyone...

In my editors automation lanes the sustain pedal lane used to be labeled 'sustain' but now it's labeled 'MIDI CC 64:0'
Does anyone know why this is? And does anyone know where you can customize the midi cc labels? I know this is possible but I can't find it.

Greetings!
Peter

Yes, that's because in the MIDI specification, Sustain Pedal is MIDI CC64.

The reason why it's displayed as "MIDI CC 64:0" is that you have an VST3 instrument in the song (I can't see on the screenshot which one it is). VST3 can have custom labels for all parameters they expose to the DAW. So this is the name the plug-in has given this parameter.

It's not yet possible in Studio One. I know (and PreSonus knows) that it's a feature that's been requested for a very long time. So I'm optimistic that it will be implemented at some point.

Thank you, Lukas. I know that CC64 is the sustain parameter but I remembered having seen the 'sustain' label before.

Thanks to your VST3 suggestion I found out that the 'Sustain' label does indeed appear with Presonus VST3 plugins and also when you use the AU protocol (I'm on a Mac).

I always assumed that since the developer of S1 also was responsible for the VST3 protocol that VST3 would be the preferred plugin format for S1. Is this true? Or is VST or AU just as good.

VST2/VST3 are definitely prefered over AU in Studio One. AU is the Logic format so many plug-in developer test their AU plug-in in Logic only. So using VST is usually safer in other DAWs.
