Time format

I see that the Now time on the Studio One transport uses a four number time format when Bars is chosen. By fiddling around with the time, I discovered that the format was:
bar.beat.16th.tick
Each 16th is 100 ticks long.
Bars and beats are 1 based.
Ticks are 0 based.

Where did the 1/16 division come from? Does it ever change? Where can I find out more about this?

There is no documentation of the format, at least no public documentation. But there's not much to document. You basically mentioned all the details in your original post.
