Studio One Plugin scan says I have 10,000 Plugins! It takes forever to scan & open.

It all of a sudden is doing this on startup. I have maybe 24 that I've bought other than the default ones that come with Studio One. It did NOT do this before! It literally says I have 9,923 plugins and takes FOREVER to scan and start up. What's going on here?
I'm on a PC, Studio One Pro 7.1.1.1.104411 (just downloaded the update today 6-3-25, so it's the newest version. - I relaunched, and it's still doing it. :(
What do I do?

Not exactly sure "where" you are telling S1 to look for plugins - but "chrome.wer" is a source file the web browser Chrome.

You need to show us where S1 is looking for plugins - under Options-Locations-VST Plug-ins.

Yes possibly you have added a folder to the plug in scan path that doesn’t belong on the list.

Welcome @MWP !

Yes, as other members have asked...

What locations do you have assigned for these in Studio One?

Here's the default locations...

Power Tip: The VST3 location does not even need to be there. S1 will pick this up automatically.

Here is mine (my VST2 path below is a custom folder structure):

I use VST3 exclusively here - all 428 plugins working perfectly.

I'm confused. I'm not sure why it would matter what location it's looking to. Are you suggesting that I 'accidentally' have over 900 plugins hidden somewhere in another location on my PC that I didn't know about? Because I don't.

It certainly does matter.

That is the ONLY way S1 scans plugins. It NOT possible for S1 to look anywhere else - except the locations listed under Location->VST Plug-Ins

Well - until you can actually show us what locations your copy of S1 IS looking to scan - no one can help you.

It matters what locations Studio One searches for plugins...

I'm not a computer programer so this is probably waffle, but...
If it's a windoze machine might be worth checking his windows file associations. If " chrome.wer" has at some point been associated as a Vst's file extension.
Just trying to think of reasons SO1 see's .wer as a vst...

Regards folks

I will bet money that the OP has S1 scanning the entire C:\Drive instead of pointing S1 to VERY specific locations.

But his resistance to post any detail or allow us to see exactly what paths are listed within Options->Location->VST Plug-ins - makes this impossible to troubleshoot.

Tis a very interesting thread where a user reaches out (in what appears to be a panic) but then decides he doesn't want anyone to see what is going on with his system when we ask some basic questions. And when we do make a couple of general suggestions - he argues and questions them - like we do not know what we are talking about (post #6)

I have to wonder why the OP bothered posting at all.

VP, I wouldn't take that bet, it would probably cost me.
I hope he gets it sorted so he can enjoy SO1, good folk have tried to help and if he has got it sorted, kindly mark the thread as resolved !

My mistake it's "chrome underscore wer" and not .wer
I goofed again. I've reached that age, that's my excuse.

More likely the OP included a shady cloud drive for scanning. That's double the time penalty, for scanning takes longer and loading is all or nothing with Studio One: You don't get to pick and choose from where you have Studio One look.

Is this some sort of porn site........ tsk! "shady cloud drive" indeed. :ROFLMAO:

Sorry couldn't resist it.

Best regards

You don't get to pick and choose from where you have Studio One look.

I get to pick.

We all get to pick.

The only location (In Windows) that you do not "need" to specifically pick is:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

This one is scanned automatically by S1 and does not need to be specifically listed in the "locations" area.

See post #5

Yes, you get to pick the locations. But then Studio One will scan and try to load those entire directories. So if you choose a remote directory with 10.000 plugins...

Except the files the OP is showing being scanned (like "chrome.wer") - are not in any known "actual" plugin location. More like - deep inside the C:\drive somewhere.

He is clearly pointing S1 to go somewhere it should not be going to.

I must admit it piqued my curiosity and googled "chrome_wer".... it described it as follows

It's a DLL file (chrome_wer.dll) responsible for handling Windows Error Reporting (WER). WER is a system for collecting crash and error data, which helps developers diagnose and fix problems.

Oh the irony.

you needn't be confused. The guys helping have asked you to display in the Studio One plugin locations, what those plugin path locations are. This is how Studio One sees relevant plugin types (commonly dll type extensions on the file name). What you then need to do is provide what is being asked of you. Thats either:
1. Go to the VST plugin tab, and provide a screenshot of what those .dll paths are.

Or

2. Type the paths in which takes a little more time to do.

Either response won't take long, but the ball is in your court to provide that information.

I agree with Vocalpoint that it appears you have a path in Studio One set to your root C drive, thereby Studio One is unnecessarily noting every .dll file on your computer. That usually amounts to thousands of various drivers available on your computer for different things.

You can easily fix your issue, by providing what was asked. An image was posted for you to locate where the VST Plugin paths are. Are you confused how to respond with supplying that? It does in fact matter, so help the guys help you by providing your plugin paths displayed within Studio One.
Thanks. 😃
