Solved Studio One 7.2 - Issues with Duplicate Track, Remove Track and Undo

freddiphin

New member
Hello! I am new here since PreSonus Forum was closed last November.

I am on the latest version of Studio One Pro+ v. 7.2 on a Windows 11 machine

I am finding that as soon as I drag in any audio file from the S1 browser to the project, I can no longer use the Duplicate Track or Remove Track functions. In addition the Undo command ceases to function.

This is shown in the video that can be seen here:

I have confirmed this is in ver. 7.2 only. Re-installing 7.0 and the problem is gone.

I have submitted a ticket to Support, but just chiming in here in case this is a common issue.

I'm still having issues with Duplicate Track, Remove Track and Undo not working when dragging in Audio files after updating to 7.2.

@freddiphin - Welcome to the Forum!

FYI: We moved this thread from the main SO 7.2 discussion thread here so it's easier to track responses.

My eyesight isn't the greatest but without any audio in your video I'm having a hard time knowing when you're selecting a track, a command etc. or just rolling over them with your mouse.

In your first "Duplicate Track" example are you expecting that the event will also be copied to the new track or are you just showing the command works as expected with an existing track and event?

I've tested "Duplicate", "Duplicate Track (complete)" and "Remove Track" after dragging in an event multiple times and can't get any of the commands to fail. I'm running Windows 11 (24H2) with Studio One 7.2.
Hopefully someone else can document the steps to confirm the issue you're having.
Also, it would really help to update your signature (see link and example in mine) with your system specs as that information helps with trouble shooting issues.

BTW: Did Support get back to you and confirm it as a bug?

Sorry I'm nowhere near to test, and won't be for weeks.
Just a long shot, you aren't running studio one "as administrator" are you?

And try temporarily disabling your antivirus before starting studio one.
I get the feeling however somebody may validate this issue as a bug.

Same here, Trucky. I'm trying to understand what is attempting to be duplicated or copied. I dont see events being highlighted (typically clicking on with the mouse or arrow key) or tracks. It appears nothing is selected, but I may be just not able to follow this properly.

Thanks freddiphin for creating the issue on video, but its not clear to me. Apologies ahead if I'm missing something I should be clear on.

If you actually click on his video and view it in full screen it is quite clear what he is doing.

He has a session with 4 audio tracks. He starts the video off by showing that Duplicate Track and remove track work just fine on several different tracks. He then uses the Studio One Browser, with the Files Tab open, to drag an audio file in from said file browser. Once he does that, Duplicate track no longer works on any track. He then goes to show that Remove Track also no longer works, nor does Undo.

I was wondering if perhaps this was related to the issue I reported (Detect Tempo), but it is not. This particular thing isn't an issue for me. However, I see it is an issue for one other user in this thread, and I've seen posts in a Facebook Group with a similar description. I'm glad this issue was also reported.

Thank you @Trucky for allocating this!
This does not seem to be a bug with the version.
It does seem that this issue is consistent only with certain files from a certain location, even when dragged into a new, blank project. Yes, the files are from a sample library, but an older one. They are simple .wav files, non-proprietary with no permission limitations that I can see. In addition, MOST files from the given folder generate the problem while SOME do not (in this case, they are all just short wav samples of different notes being played on an acoustic instrument). Corrupt files, I guess? Very odd. Especially odd that it would effect such fundamental and specific functions of S1 (Duplicate, Remove, Undo) but not the general functioning of the program otherwise. But at least it's a limited case scenario.

@freddiphin
Any chance you could try Bouncing the Wav after you have dropped it, or is that also not working ?

Regards

Thanks for the explanation.
Do these audio files that fail play normally in Studio One?

If so like @sintil8 said, try bouncing and saving them.
Then try that file to see if it resolves the issue.

@Trucky
do you know if a file is part of a group of samples for velocity or for a round robin, would the wav file have any code or a flag in the wav header that links those files so they stay together?
There must be a reason this is locking SO1's basic functions?

This may be a moot point now that the OP has come up with the ins and out's himself, nice one!

As always best of Regards

Hi,

"MOST files from the given folder generate the problem while SOME do not"

In this case I definitely need one of the issued files.
Can you send me one please?

Thanks
Ari

It would be interesting to check if the issue goes away after deleting this DLL from the application folder:
C:\Program Files\PreSonus\Studio One 7\Plugins\beatdetection.dll

Would you try that please?

I still think this is linked to the "Find Tempo" bug that has already been reported.

Notice that when the OP drags that file into S1 from the Browser - it has the little "snowflake" at the bottom left - meaning one of three things:

1. File tempo does not match project tempo
2. Timestretch is on
3. Clip has been transposed.

I am betting this "issue" is a combo of 1+2 and is possibly related to that tempo bug. This is - BTW - not the first instance of this I have seen.

"Snowflake" in the bottom left also indicates when sample rate of the file is different from that of the project, which is very frequently the case in my situation as my project default is 48k. But yes, good idea

Not that I'm aware of.
For example with drum samples, the individual audio files are just recordings of the drummer hitting a drum at different velocities.

I have sent the "questionable" files into Support with the following further findings (I can't seem to attach them here in the forum post, it only apparently allowing text, image, and web file attachments) : "I attached a couple of the files in question just in case you might see something indicative in them. - I at first thought the one I labeled "BAD" would always cause the problem, even in a blank new project (it was being consistent for a while) and the one labeled "GOOD" would not cause the problem (consistently), BUT after many many trials (opening and closing Studio One completely compared to just closing the project and instantiating a new project) I now find that it is quite INconsistent. The issue does, however, only seem to be with these particular sample files (simple one-note samples of acoustic instrument), so not a major obstacle."

And NOW, after all this back and forth troubleshooting, I am finding it hard to replicate the original problematic issue, so..... I'm going with.... File Poltergeist explanation. In any case, it's a minor issue. Very sorry to raise the specter of "BUG" on this.

Yes - sorry. I meant sample rate.

Please please, before you read anything else from anyone else... :D Please do this!!!

@freddiphin It's great that others are helping as well, but: Ari from the PreSonus software team has personally asked you for some very specific repros. It doesn’t make much sense to send things to support, where they might eventually reach the dev team through various detours - instead of sending them directly to him as requested here, so he can look into them right away.

I did not realize Ari was from PreSonus. That's awesome.
