Sound ON Sound

Im coming over from Cakewalk and i really liking what i am learning about Studio one...but one thing i miss is the ability to record Sound on Sound I.E.have a recorded track playing that i want to drop in on but not have that track muted when i hit record...the only way i can figure to do this is by having 2 or 3 tracks inserted and shift recording on to those as i go along...thats very fiddly...or am i not seeing something? Thanks

S1 was developed after the 'multitrack tape machine' model, so... just like ProTools, Cubase, Nuendo and the other major pro DAW's, this can only be done by duplicating the track (for settings) and editing in post. "Takes to Layers" is close, but no cigar.
I've only ever used it in CW by mistake, and regretted it.

thanks for the reply...
i prefer it as i dont have to take time out
to set up another track every time i want to drop in.
anyway ill get used to it

It's been asked for several times from Cakewalk users and it's gone nowhere for years now through feature requests. Still, you probably should locate an existing FR for SoS if you want to cast another vote. Recording takes to layers is a click away, and so is duplicate track, to parallel a track for such things.
