Smart Tool

GIM Productions

New member
Hi everyone, I'm happy to be part of the forum and I have a very simple question...
After many years of production with another DAW I decided to switch to Studio One which I find very simple and immediate, but despite having been a beta tester for 5 years for the other company I cannot understand how to use the smart tool and therefore the mute or the eraser only on a part of the audio clip ,without cutting the clip which I could do with the previous DAW.
for clarity, I selected the mute tool, passed it over the desired part and muted that part quickly.
I wasn't able to do this simple thing but for example on my own I managed to create a template for a vsti with separate outputs:cool:
Can you help me?
Thank you

Hi and welcome :)

Not sure what you want to achieve, the thing that apparently was easy in your other DAW. As for selecting tools in Studio One you have a few options:
  • Select your primary tool from the top-window menu bar by clicking on it. Then left-click on an event to apply the selected action
  • Or select your primary tool by number shortcut. Then left-click on an event to apply the selected action
  • Select the link bracket from the top-window menu bar by clicking on it. Now when you hover your mouse over the bottom half of an event (track height must be at least 'normal') you get the Arrow tool, and hover over the top half of the event for the Range tool. Left-click to apply
  • Repeatedly hit the '1' key to cycle through your secondary tools. This is the tool you will get when you hold the [Cmd on a Mac, Ctrl on PC?] key before left-clicking an event
All tools work on the entire event, so you can't mute a section of an event without chopping it up first. An alternative would be to automate mute for the track, or to use Gain Envelope on the track.

Thanks very much for the reply.
I imagined that by default in Studio One you necessarily have to cut the event first and then apply the desired editing.
It could be a function to be included in future releases because in the other DAW I didn't have to cut the event but only select the tool and passing the tool, for example mute, on the portion of the event automatically silenced it.
And it's much faster.
I want to try to create this with the Macro edit function I hope to succeed
Greetings
