Set Pre-Post Roll to flexible numbers (not whole bars only)

Wouldn´t it be great if we could set the Pre-post Roll values to any number instead of being limited to whole-bar numbers?
See picture: When punching in/loop recording short phrases which don´t match whole bars, the corresponding Pre and Post Roll points fall somehwere
in between musical values, which could be really off-putting.
I think t would be helpful being able to move the pre-post roll points completely independent of the cycle-start-end points.
(to bar 3 and 6 in this scenario)
What do you think?
Would this be worth a feature request?

Yes likewise. 👍

I tried to create a feature request (never did before). Does it take some time to show up?

Looks like it is online.
let the votes begin :)

sorry don't want to steal your request. if you add the link to your post, i remove it from mine :)
Nah, it´s ok, appreciate it! The attached picture looks awful though. resolution is a total disaster😩

strange. there should be a zoom symbol when hover over pictures and on click it should zoom up the full image.
but maybe the image was to low in height to get the behavior working.

Voted - thanks for creating the request Wolfger! 👍

Good call, @Wolfger hope you don't mind me adding my thoughts to your suggestion

Out of curiosity is this a set it and forget it thing or are you wanting to input a figure each time, for instance 2 bars and 5/16ths type of option?

Myself I would prefer a set and forget scenario.
As your graphic, editing a short section within a bar pre-roll would look back to the "start of that bar", and then move backward by the number of bars you have set for the pre-roll.
Post-roll the same find the next bar after the loop brace end marker and then move forward by the number of bars set for post roll

To rephrase what I have said above...

For pre-roll and post-roll to automatically look backwards and forwards to the nearest bar start and end, and then add the number of bars set by the user in the setting section. So that it locks to the bar, (in each case) regardless of the loop brace start and end points positioning.

I will add my vote next time I log into my Presonus.

Best regards

Hi sintil!

For me, the coolest way would be, if I could freely drag around the pre/post-roll points independently (snap on or off) to where they make sense.
So maybe we could look at two scenarios (for sure there are many more):

1. We have a bar-related song, want to loop-record the chorus but only want to auto punch on certain phrases (the example in my opening post) In this scenario the pre/post roll points should be adjustable obeying the snap setting and would stay in the same place and the auto punch points would change according to the selected phrases.

2. Recording an audio-book setting the pre/post roll points to the next rounded bar number when autopunching on a certain phrase probably would not make much sense. In this scenario setting pre/post roll should be adjustable freely (snap off) to preceding/following phrases to keep a nice flow.

Being no native speaker I hope this somehow makes sense?

kind regards
Wolfger

No need to hope, you have very good english.
the freely drag the pre-post roll markers would the most flexible but the other options are all useful,
I was looking at the idea of knowing where you are in the bar if the 1st down beat is on the pre-roll. Anyway I've dropped my vote in, hope it gains some traction.

Best regards

The solution to this could be so easy and should have been part of the first release of Studio One in September 2009. As soon as you work in the digital world and no longer have to record with an analog band machine, the determination of the auto-punch in and out function can be seen completely independently of the digital loop function. I don't know what the makers of Studio One rode, but these are absolute basics of any digital DAW. With a completely independent auto-punch in and out function, you should have the same options as with the previous loop function. For example, got any automatic punch in and out points. (Auto-Punch to Range Selection) and other options. Of course, completely independent of the said loop function. So please, dear Presonus people. Give you a jerk and end these half-cooked restrictions for the auto-punch functionality in Studio One.

Just throwing out a bit of lateral thinking...
An odd ball thing I used to do, was to use the Arranger track to mark different area's of a track that I wanted to change for some reason.
I would listen to the track start to end and block out areas as I went along. Just wondering if a flip setting for the arranger blocks could be used to determin pre-post roll sections. The track already exist the sections or frames could probably be repurposed if the code is avavilable for such tasks.

Anyway that's my morning mad ten minutes...Ahh :coffee:

Regards to all.
