Separate Audio Input Output Devices under Windows

Looks like under MacOS they can use separate Audio Input and Output Devices.

Under Windows this is not usable.
Technical limitation?
Don't know why.

But I seen it lately in Steinberg SpectraLayers 11 there I can select separate Audio Devices
So it could be possible in the future?

For example than I can use a USB Microphone Input and my ASIO RME Babyface as Output.

Ideal would be when Windows finally made a ASIO or better like Audio Standard, that makes this all possible :)

For now I can route it over my RME Babyface in TotalMixFX, so not a big deal.

Don't know how do you all workaround it?

If more people find this useful, I may make an official feature request.

Screenshot is from Steinberg SpectraLayers 11 under Windows 10.

Edit:
Sorry for posting it in the wrong Subforum

and here are the official Presonus Feature Request Link

thx

I'm not sure, if this screenshot is really a different audio device. It only says "default system input" with ASIO selected as the driver. And default system input can be "channel xy" of your audio device. It's maybe just a different naming of the same thing.
And this isn't something which can be solved inside the DAW, because it is a driver issue. I know, that some people got multiple audio devices work together under Windows using Asio4All but this might not be very stable.
On Mac OS you have something called "aggregated audio devices" which provides you the possibility to create a kind of virtual audio device from multiple devices. But Mac OS has a complete different handling of audio than Windows. Maybe in the future with a dedicated low latency driver inside Windows, this could be possible.

Yeah you are right, is tied to the Type ASIO or WASAPI

But I can at least use different ASIO Input and Output Devices in SpectraLayers.

And with the Steinberg build-in ASIO Driver, that is installed with SL, i can select my USB Microphone and use this as Input in SL and my RME Babyface ASIO as Output.
So the Steinberg Driver map all different Audio Sources, that i also see in Windows, into a ASIO Driver, like Asio4All do.
I did not test any Latency and Performance on this Setup and don't use the Steinberg ASIO Driver in S1.

And Steinberg invented ASIO, so much for that.
Sad that Microsoft is unable to develop a usable, high-performance audio standard for its operating system.
Shouldn't WASAPI be that standard?
