Scoring Tools: New features coming soon

I'm working on some new features and improvements for an upcoming Scoring Tools update. Unfortunately, the multi-track editing commands (Edit Next/Previous Instrument Part/Toggle Single Track Editing) stopped working in Studio One Pro 7. So I not only worked on a workaround, but also added some new functionality based on new V7 features. (These won't be available in Studio One 6 due to missing scripting features.)

The new/improved commands allow you to switch between tracks you have selected for multi-track MIDI editing. You can also toggle between seeing only the selected track or all the tracks you're editing (Toggle Single Part). This can be very useful for editing string arrangements, woodwinds, choirs - anything you want to edit in a shared editor view. This was available in previous versions of Scoring Tools, but the new commands are more robust and reliable, and shouldn't change the editor view or zoom level.

A new feature recently suggested at VI-Control was the ability to toggle editing for all currently visible tracks (look at the pencil icon in the left multi-track list). Sometimes you may want to see the other tracks' notes as a guide, but you don't want them to be editable. The new Toggle Editing button lets you toggle between editing all visible tracks or just the current track.

I will create a detailed video on these new/improved features as soon as the new update is available (estimated 1-2 weeks).

It would be great if we would be able to solo a track (currently solo/mute applies to all editable tracks).

This is fantastic for my needs. Toggling between tracks from the edit window and having that functionality would be convenient. Nice!

I cannot confirm this. If you press S or M or click on the Solo/Mute buttons in the Editor, it only solos/mutes the selected track(s). But there's no need to have multiple tracks selected for multi-track MIDI editing...

I agree, there's no need to have multiple tracks selected for multi-track MIDI editing.
It could get quite convoluted with overlapping layers to deal with. What could be cool, (though not a reality yet) would be to drag a range over a selection of notes, even from those multiple tracks, and move, stretch, and manipulate all tracks at times. But I'm just hearing myself think. Currently, I simply select a track by color on the editing grid to promote that layer to the top. Of course that's not always possible when notes might be hidden. I do like your attached example, as that seIects layers (tracks), easily. Very nice.

Thank you Lukas. I've been hesitant to upgrade to V7 because scoring tools and multi-part editing is such an integral part of my workflow! Is this forum the best place for updates on the update, or will existing owners receive an email when available? (I'm assuming we'd use the original download link we received on purchase of the earlier version). Thanks again!

I'll post scripting announcements here, yes, but I also plan to send out emails when new feature updates are available (missed that sometimes in the past).

The easiest way to check if you're on the latest version is to click on the Info button (Help button in Harmony Wizard).

Yes, exactly. There will be a more convenient update routine at some point, but until then, use the download link from the email.

Ever used DivisiMate, Lukas?

I'm weighing arguments from people incorporating it into their workflows but honestly with Scoring Tools + Harmony Wizard, combined with the powerful MIDI editing native to S1, is there any benefit left to DivisiMate or is it replaced by all these things entirely?

P.S. I am still on S1 v 6.6.4. Is there any reason I should upgrade to Scoring Tools 1.2.1.0 (from 1.0.3)?

Nice update man!

Yes, Divisimate is really great and innovative. I think the biggest benefit of Divisimate is that it allows you to play these orchestrations in real-time and even switch between different scenes while playing/recording. Scoring Tools and Harmony Wizard are more for "classical" MIDI editing.

There are reasons (new features, improvements, fixes), but if you're not missing anything, there's nothing to stop you from using the version that works best for you :)

Here's the change log:

I find the Sync Point features pretty neat, and even if you don't use sync points, the "Sync Events" and "Sync Events to Cursor" commands can be handy for event editing (aligning multiple events).
