For anyone that uses the excellent Scaler VST for composition - a complete revamp is coming soon.

And wow - it looks like these guys met up with with Studio One UI designers in a local bar - had a few wobbly pops and started cookin!.

This is really going fit right into our workflows..

Looks good VP. I'll have to review what's new about it. Sounds like it ties into Studio One nicely. I'm not big on theory (chord wise), but I've found some general knowledge of chords or discipline helps present a worthy atmosphere. Particularly indiscipline. ; )

I like Scaler a lot. I don't see an upgrade option from 2 though

The upgrade pricing will be posted up via Plugin Boutique (if that is where you bought it) upon availability on March.

Already looks like it will be very attractive - like maybe $29.00

Aargh, still torn. I once loaded the demo for Scaler 2 and when I saw the target size of the installation (several hundred megabytes? I can’t remember) I cancelled the setup and never tried it. Usually I prefer slim tools.

I bought Scaler at Plugin Boutique. I also bought the Scaler v2 upgrade there. 29 € vs 49 € list. I expect the same for v3. The only reason to do anything now is if you don't own a Scaler license and you want to get familiar with it before v3 is released.

Slim tools? In 2025?

Never thought about Scaler being heavy - except for what it brings to to the table.

If disk space is an issue - disk is cheap.

Yes sorry :ROFLMAO:, I‘m an old school software developer who started with assembler decades ago to save every byte possible. That mindset lasts until today.

Understood. If you are looking for "slim" - this is not the game to be in. :)

That would be good. That's what I paid @ PB for V2 IIRC.

Same here. My first "personal" computer was a home built S100 buss-based, with a Z80 CPU board and two (count 'em TWO) 8K x 8 RAM cards that cost about $500 each (in 1985 money)! I got CPM running on it and hand-coded the drivers for the 2 DSDD 8" floppies connected to it. I used an ADM-3A terminal to talk to it. With so little memory, EVERYTHING was coded in assembler. Over time, I upgraded it to a full 64K RAM! There was NOTHING portable about that PC.

what it brings to to the table.

Interesting?

Looking at those images on Scaler website. those blured images, looks like a multitrack instrument... I wonder if they have created a multi out midi system, or is it all internal?
Any of you folk willing to post how you use the current version, is it dragging chords etc. out or are you running the midi out and using the Scaler link feature and lots of copies sending midi to other Vst's.

Regards to all.

I use it to create my main chord sequences, "bind" the chords to single keys and then hit MIDI Capture. Once this is complete - I drag the MIDI into S1 - and route it to a specific instruments. And use S1 for the main edits, arrangement etc

This is just one of many ways to use it. But v3 looks to take everything to a whole new level and yes - it appears to have multi track capabilities where the user can write main chords, basslines, melodies and the whole lot - right inside the plugin UI - and presumably drag things out (or leave them in the plugin) at will.

If it does what I think it does - this will be a game changer for pretty much everyone who works with actual chord arrangements when building out their pieces etc.

I have 1 & 2 and I think they're great. I use mainly the chord builder. Very handy. Looking forward to seeing what this one has. Has anyone announced a upgrade price? I haven seen one yet.

The play and midi capture is what I tend to do most of the time, but to be honest, I experimented with the various methods and found having a few copies of linked versions of Scaler needed a lot of attention. I'll probably drop on it at some point tho', s'pose we have to wait and see.
It does allow a lot of alternative methods of using it, which is OK in my mind, but keep it straight forward and easy to use. Yeah

Anyway best regards.

I could not tolerate the way Presonus makes me:

  1. Add Instrument track with Scaler
  2. Add another instrument track (with a preferred instrument)
  3. Redo the routing so Track 2 is taking input from Track 1 (Scaler)
  4. Rinse and repeat for every other instance that you might want to use
Pretty soon you realize that 43 minutes has gone by just connecting Scalers to instruments and the cool idea you had is now gone. AND you have a hodge-podge of unmanagable Scalers - connecting to upteen different instruments, clogging up the arrangement and making navigation a PITA

So - a few weeks ago - I sat down with an empty S1 session and began to map out ALL my favor Scaler/Instrument combos and dragged each pair into this empty session, did all the routing, packed each pair into a folder, NAMED the folder (aka Scaler + Omnisphere) and then saved my creation as a Track Preset.

In no time I had a nice half dozen "go-to" Scaler combos - all wired, labelled and ready to go - all while keeping the Arrange screen clean and keeping my annoyance factor low.

Now - when inspiration hits - I just drag one into a session, it's folder is there, the labelling is there and the wiring is there - just start composing.

I mainly use Scaler to work out rough progressions/sequences, then drag them to an instrument track and go from there. I really appreciate the ease and speed of getting through the initial steps.

I keep intending to go a bit deeper, but I haven't done it yet.

@Vocalpoint

It would be a nice feature if SO1 was to allow Instrument tracks to have 3rd party Midi units inbetween the keyboard and the instrument?
I went the other way and put mine into a couple of templates, but from reading the way you have it, it gives more variation and flexibility.
☺️
Well my to_do list just got another item, s'pose it just shows my bad house keeping. Ta! that just makes sense.
Kind regards.
