S1 7.0.2 crashes with .song file consumes memory >10GB

Hi everyone,

Recently any .song files that consume memory more than 10~13GB (on taskmgr, private working memory) immediately crashes (no response, frozen) my S1 7.0.2.
If anyone has similar issue and successfully solved, I really would like to hear your knowledge.

i9-10920X / 64GB RAM (tested with OCCT, no abnormality found) / ASUS X299-A / Win10-22H2 / Antelope Orion Studio Core through ASUS Thuderbolt 3 AIC

:some findings
- .song file that consumes memory around 10~11GB: loading the file seemed to be completed, but immediately crashed while S1 was loading UIs
- .song file that consumes memory around 12~13GB: S1 crashed while S1 was loading VST plugins
- Opened such .song file with safe mode, removed some plugins to reduce memory consumption <10GB and opened it again with normal mode. Everything worked fine.
- some .song files were converted from S1 6.x

Please get in touch with support about this - there is a lit of variables to take into consideration here.
I would think there is a plugin or virtual instrument that’s causing this, maybe by using the RAM in a strange way.
Could also be ilok or UAD native issues.

Concur with @TDF1981 - *.song files do not consume excessive RAM all by themselves. You are clearly using some heavyweight instruments that load their libraries into RAM and that is where the bulk is coming from.

You need to detail exactly what you have going on both track-wise and instrument-wise in one of these heavy sessions.

If you have 10 tracks of Omnisphere or 8 tracks of giant Kontakt libraries in play - it is easy to use 10+GB of RAM.

And crashes are almost 99.92% - plugin related.

...which means it's most likely one of your plug-ins that crashes. As we all know, once a plug-in crashes, the host crashes as well and cannot prevent that.

In this case, PreSonus support cannot help.

Which plug-ins are in your song? Can you post a plug-in list?

Thank you all for your reply.
I also noticed that a newly created (on S1 7.0.2) .song file with plugins consumed >13GB of memory worked well.

I seemed to be focusing on the wrong thing - memory consumption trigerred entire crash of S1.
Let me make plugin list of .song file trigerred crash.

Thank you for sharing useful tools, I generated and uploaded plugin list here.

16x instrument tracks, 17x audio tracks, 2x automation tracks and 4x buses.

I also noticed that I unintentionally loaded same plugins as both VST2.x and VST3 extensions.
Let me try to disable VST2.x plugins first.
