Solved "Replace Event With Previous/Next Layer" (Alt G/Alt H) stops working

I've done several vocal takes, which I've entered as layers in Studio One 6 Pro.

I like to comp a lead vocal track by setting up a loop for each phrase in the vocal and then using Alt G (Replace Event with Previous Layer) and Alt H (Replace Event with Next Layer) to go up and down the layers, auditioning that phrase in each layer.

Which works fabulously until it stops working, which seems to . . . just happen. That is, I'm going along, auditioning phrases and suddenly Alt H and Alt G seem to do nothing. I've tried closing out the song, closing out Studio One, but I still can't get Alt H and Alt G to work again. (Double-clicking on each layer to audition its phrase does still work.)

This feels like, maybe, a mode thing, but I don't know what I did to get out of the "mode in which Alt G and Alt H work" into this new mode, or, especially, how to get back. Or maybe it's a bug.

I'd appreciate all suggestions about how I can get these great commands to work again. Thanks.

I'm not having any issues with Alt G or Alt H so I'd need to see a link to a video or specific steps from you to try to reproduce the issue.

Another popular method I use for vocal comping is shown in the following video.
It provides more flexibility for me to comp vocals to words (if needed) rather than entire phrases...

Yes, that's *exactly* the video I'm using to comp vocals. At 12 mins and 10 seconds he talks about 3 ways to "audition" takes and specifically mentions Alt G and Alt H. He offers two other approaches, but I find the Alt G and Alt H method the most efficient for me, when it works. But it stops working. If you'd like the specific steps I'm taking, it's exactly what he does in the video a little after 12 mins and 10 seconds.

The Alt key can be problematic or lose focus on some computers that use it for other keyboard functions.

As a test, try assigning those commands to other keyboard shortcuts to see if that helps.

For example, use the < and > keys as shown here...

I've never heard of the Alt key losing focus! In any case, I reassigned the Replace Event keystrokes with Ctrl G and Ctrl H. So far, it seems better, though still kind of flaky. This whole way of auditioning takes seems a bit wonky in Studio One. But it's certainly better so thanks so much! I really appreciate the help.
