Solved Patch Bay Hook Up

Hello
it sounds so easy .. but man it's confusing. Can anyone explain or draw a wire diagram on how to connect a Quantum 2632 to a patch bay with some compressors as outboard gear? I've watch youtube videos and they always use some other audio interface that has just a couple of inputs and outputs. Any assistance would be appreciated .. Thank you

What sort of patch bay is that: half-normalled? And do you have a list of your outboard gear?

Basically there are two ways to set up patch bays. One is as a bunch of easily accessible open inputs and outputs of all your gear, so you can quickly patch outputs to inputs as you see fit. The other option is to set up 'default' chains of gear when no cables are connected to the front of the patch bay, with the front of the patch bay giving you the option to alter those chains using patch cables. What's the plan?

Thank you for the reply. I have a Samson S-Patch Plus 48-Point Balanced Patchbay. Here is a snapshot of my console and list of items I would like to connect
Golden Age 73-MKIII Pre
Pro MPA 2 Channel Pre
Quantum 26-32 Interface
WA 73 EQ ( I always have this connected to my main vocal mic and then to the WA 76 ) I would like to be able to easily interchange that to other compressors and preamps.
DBX 131 EQ
I dont really use the studio one Live 16 board except for playing a CD and powering the JBL monitors for playback sometimes.
The patch bay has been siting there just looking at me saying .. hook me up ya dumb ass ! LOL Your assistance is greatly appreciated

OK, clear. That Samson patch bay allows you to switch the inputs/outputs between normal, half-normal and through which can be handy. To learn how that affects the behaviour you can easily Google it.

To get you going you can set up your default chain like this:
  1. Set the first 3 switches of the patch bay to HN position
  2. Connect the output of the Golden Age 73-MKIII Pre to the back of the patch bay, channel 1 top row
  3. Connect the input of the WA 73 EQ to the back of the patch bay, channel 25 (i.e. channel 1 bottom row)
  4. Connect the output of the WA 73 EQ to the back of the patch bay, channel 2 top row
  5. Connect the input of the WA 76 comp to the back of the patch bay, channel 26 (i.e. channel 2 bottom row)
  6. Connect the output of the WA 76 comp to the back of the patch bay, channel 3 top row
  7. Connect a line input of the Quantum to the back of the patch bay, channel 27 (i.e. channel 3 bottom row)
Now with nothing in the front of the patch bay your 73-MKIII to WA73 to WA 76 to Quantum input should work. In the same manner you can set up default chains for your other gear too. Use stickers on the front to indicate where the inputs and outputs of your gear are. You can connect any spare Quantum outputs (top row) and inputs (bottom row) to the back of the patch bay too, but set the switches for those channels to T (through, = no connection between top and bottom row).

To make changes to the default chains use patch cables in the front of the patch bay. In half-normal patch bays a patch cable in the top row splits that output to maybe another input but keeps the default chain intact too. A patch cable in the bottom row replaces the signal to that input with the signal from the cable, breaking the default chain. So e.g. to swap the EQ and comp in the chain above you:
  1. Plug a patch cable in channel 27 (removes WA 76 output from Quantum input)
  2. Plug the other end in channel 2 (now WA 73 output goes to Quantum input too)
  3. Plug a patch cable in channel 26 (removes WA 73 output from WA 76 input)
  4. Plug the other end in channel 1 (now Golden Age output goes to WA 76 input too)
  5. Plug a patch cable in channel 25 (removes Golden Age output from WA 73 input)
  6. Plug the other end in channel 3 (now WA 76 output goes to WA 73 input)
Hope that helps, a bit :)
