Solved Pan Law Question?

I know the only way to change the Pan Law in Studio One is to use the Presonus Dual Pan Plugin correct? My question is where should I insert the plugin to effect the entire mix? On each channel or can I just put it on the main output. For example if I want the entire mix to be at -6DB. Also it would be nice if this feature can be added in the DAW like the way Pro Tools does it or something similar.

The Pan Law applies to the panning of each individual track, so you would have to add the Dual Pan Plugin to every channel where you wanted to override the S1 standard pan.

You may want to try to make peace with the default pan setting. I used to worry about the pan setting because I thought my mix in mono would suffer. In practice, it was less noticeable to me than I thought, and entirely unnoticed by the listener (IMO).

This may depend on the version of Studio One you're using. As a general rule try right-clicking (in this case on the panner) to see if there are more options.

You would need to put it at the end of the chain. In order to always be able to set the pan without opening the plugin you can just click once to open the miniature version on the channel.

Ok great! So just one plugin for the entire mix.

Depends on how you look at it. It is only dual pan, but it also needs to be on each channel you want to pan around. But, it can be quite fast: insert it on one channel, set it to the pan law you want, open the miniature by clicking on the insert, then select all other channels and then drag the dual pan to the next track which will copy it to all selected tracks. Now you can control panning directly from the mixer view

Even if I want the entire mix to have the exact same Pan Law setting I have to insert it on every channel? Im not using it as a panner I do that in my SSL UC1 and SSL 360. I just need to change the Pan Law.

Wait, you use the SSL 360 for panning? Is that also with their channel strip? Using the panning of the plugin mixer? The thing is, you can't set the pan law for the whole program, that is done in the plugin. But if you use the SSL for panning it also depends on whether you use the panning of the SSL plugin or control the panning of Studio One itself. Because that will not work unfortunately with the dual pan plugin. I wonder though... Pan law is only about how loud things will be when you pan them left or right. If it's not the right level you change the level, right?
Anyway, the short answer to your question is: You can not change the pan law for the whole DAW, the only place you can do that is in the dual pan plugin, but that requires you to have that on each channel and that in turn makes that you can't control it with your SSL UC1. But honestly, I think you should use the panning options of the SSL Channelstrip anyway. Maybe you could find another plugin that has the correct pan law and use 360 Link to control that? Just thinking out loud

Yeah! I have all the SSL 360 plugins and I use the UC1 controller, also my main DAW Is Pro Tools so I’ve been trying to rap my head around how that works in Studio One. In Pro tools it’s really simple and straight forward. Thanks for your time and the explanations given. I understand now.

Double click the panning area in any channel to be able to choose Dual.... might be ver 6 and above.

Is there anything particular you want to achieve by switching to a different pan law? Depending on channel content you may need more than one pan law for your mix inputs.

Studio One Pro 7, When you click the option for Dual Panner there's no option for the Pan Laws. You need to use the plugin.
