Just went from KU12CE to 15 for $249.50US
Been waiting for this one for a while

I am looking to get Kontak 8 I assume that is the "full" Kontak right now its $149. I don't have an upgrade using the free player right now.

I don't get the whole Kontak vs Komplete thing I can't follow the tiers and I don't see a simple comparison. I want to run certain 3rd party instruments which I will have to buy in addition to the Kontak full dependency, its odd to me

Kontakt Player allows you to use certain sampled instruments that are compatible with that software.

Kontakt Full allows the creation of new instruments within the software, and allows far greater control of instruments created to use the full Kotankt.

Komplete is the NI family of software instruments and plugins that comes in various bundles from free to around $2K. It includes plugins from companies outside NI, as well as their own stuff.

Komplete Kontrol is a wrapper that allows the collation and control of instruments (of which Kontakt is just one) and plugins and the integration between hardware and software.

thanks!

When a 3rd party plugin says it needs Kontak full does that mean it requires at least the paid Kontak 8?

Yes, Kontakt Full is the paid plugin, available for $149.50 right now. It comes with a pretty big library of its own, which has some very useful instruments in it. However, if you go and get the free Komplete Start, which includes the Massive X Player, some of the Kontakt 8 Factory Library and about 8 other instruments, you may find you can get a cheaper upgrade price to the full Kontakt 8. If that doesn't work, have a look at getting the paid Komplete 15 Select (around $50, in one of three flavours) which also may give you a cheaper Kontakt upgrade path: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-15-select/

As mentioned, yes, but it's not 3rd party plugins, it's sampled instruments. Kontakt is a sampler that plays sample libraries. The difference between the libraries that work with the free Player version versus the full paid version is that they've paid NI a license fee for each instrument and those instruments show up in the Kontakt library and the Native Access app. Instruments that require the full Kontakt are loaded via the Files tab instead of the Libraries tab, and can be installed by you in the same folder as your licensed instruments or in another folder of your choice. Small developers with low-volume sales can't justify that additional expense, and there are VERY few licensed freebie instruments, with the Fracture Sounds Blueprint series and Heavyocity Foundations freebies for Kontakt Player being rare exceptions. BTW, they're excellent!

Fracture Sounds free Kontakt instruments for Kontakt Player or full Kontakt

Heavyocity Foundations free Kontakt instruments for Kontakt Player or full Kontakt

Thanks for the correction. I follow the 3rd parties supply the sampled instruments which play in the Kontakt plugin
