Just switched to S1 after a dreadful year with Nuendo

hey all,

been working on Mac/Logic for 20 years and, since I work in game audio I had to fully switch to Win last year. And unfortunately no Logic there.
Decided to invest in Nuendo and worked with it for over a year now but it never really clicked: a LOT of really questionable design choices but most of all Steinberg's workflow always requires more actions & mouse clicks to perform the same thing. Old school design at its best.
I thought I would get used to it (I just want a piece of software that works) until 5 days ago after, yet again, another bad design choice, I begged Chat GPT to suggest a more streamlined DAW on Win. And came up with Studio One.

Being in the sound business for now 25 years, I knew about it since my Presonus times when I had the mighty Firepod back in 2006 (?) but always thought is was some sort of Garage Band type of DAW for hobbists and never really investigated more in recent years.

My goodness, it took me 2 days of exploring the trial to realize how smooth and streamlined S1 is <3
Modern design, modern and updated workflows, drag & drop everywhere and on top of that scriptable (already bought Harmony Wizard just to support Lukas amazing work for the community).

The grim days of being stuck with the obsolete "software engineer" driven workflow of Nuendo are over and life looks bright again. (no joke XD)

I'd be super curious to know your experience
Not much to tell - except to say my Nuendo time was between v3 and v5 when Steinberg had a raft of issues with both Cubase and Nuendo ranging from an inability to design a user-friendly workflow to haphazard updates to long stretches with no new development.

And then of course the pricing was increasing at an alarming rate. Then in 2011 - I came across Studio One and in the space of a single weekend - I was hooked. Sold all my Steinberg licenses the very next week and never looked back.

got it, weird thing is that I've been using N13 which supposedly should have been going thru a long stretch of iterations & improvements since your Nuendo days but nada. Well, "nada" in my books of course. A lot of people is happy with that kind of workflow.
Also the marketed "game audio" features are pretty juvenile and def not worth, especially with Reaper around.
But it's all good.
I'm just so relieved that from now on, opening a DAW, feels like a comfy, inspiring place to be again thanks to Studio One.

I sometimes think back to that initial discovery in 2011 and marvel at how I have been using it daily for 14 years now and it still manages to retain that special something that makes my workflow so effortless.

That and its stability are to me - it's greatest strengths. Not easily replicated among competitors.

Great to hear about the stablity since in my Intel years, Logic has crashed like.. dunno,10 times in total? Nuendo would crash at least 10 times a month (and I keep my work tools clean)

I also appreciate how fast it opens/closes. Reminds me of Reaper for that.

For me - I think I may have experienced 3 crashes in total since 2011 - all due to wonky plugins.

S1 is a battleship from my chair over here.

My experience also. But don't let Studio One's stability lull you into a false sense of security! Other parts of a computer can screw up. Sometimes I'll go for hours in Studio One, and then remember to my horror that I hadn't saved recently and I'd better do so...just in case.

lol that sounds even more reassuring. I want to be lulled like hell with S1 stability XD Autosave is already on
