Issues with Studio One 7 Pro

I've been using S1 since version 3. updated to 7 Pro a couple of months ago.

Is anybody else experiencing issues with 7?

Issues I'm having:

General unreliability.....seems it's crashing/freezing during playback a lot! (my computer - Mac Studio - is less than a year old should be able to easily handle the small projects I've recently been working on)

I have Melodyne 5 studio (not essential) - every week it seems I have to reinstall Melodyne or Studio One does not recognize that I have it installed and activated.
sometimes have to go into advanced settings, deactivate AU/VST and VST device support....shut down...restart and reactivate plugin support..shut down and restart again before it works!...talk about waisted time!)

Softube Console 1 - Studio one does not recognize fader movements when DAW is playing (so totally useless)

increased CPU usage - same plugins used in Studio one 6 seemed to use about 2/3rds of what's being used in 7.

for some reason can not install Lead Architect or Cinematic Lights (really don't care about that though...not that interested...would rather they had updated other features)

on lauch studio one keeps asking me to enable plugin scanner in firewall settings (it has never NOT been allowed...Apple support is baffled)

Studio One is not recognizing midi CC from Softube console or my Arturia key step anymore (have reinstalled Softube and Arturia, deleted and recreated external devices...sometimes they work but most of the time they don't or lag)

I have reported all these issues and have been in contact with Presonus support...but still no solutions.
(mean time have gone back to Logic for work....REALLY miss macros and drag and drop though)

would appreciate any suggestions on fixes if anybody else has had these issues

Couple thoughts on a few of your items:

1. Unreliability. Are you using AU plugins? If so - do not. VST3 is where it's at for S1
2. CPU - could be related to #1
3. LA and CL need to first be "claimed" via your Presonus Account and then installed via the Studio One->Installation Menu
4. Firewall - Apple should not be surprised. "Sequoia now requires many apps and processes to be added to the Local Network for them to function correctly"

Thanks for your reply VP,

Using all VST3 plugins.

I claimed LA and CL in account. problem is whenever I try to install from "Studio One Installation" (auto installer) studio one crashes.
Those are really not much concern for me, I doubt I'll ever use them...but I was going to just manually install those by downloading installer from account once I got the other issues sorted.

On Sonoma still - but I'll check to see if that applies. Thanks

What really is frustrating is I haven't changed anything accept upgrading to 7. everything worked great in 6.

I think my best bet is to downgrade back to 6.

The good thing is, you'll be able to run both versions on the same system, just not at the same time. (small comfort that is is..)
I have no clue to your other issues, it seems really odd to me. Did you try reinstalling v7?

Similar issues to you, especially with the crashing. VST 3 only, only using plugins that are compatible with Apple Silicon, updated everything. All comments online suggest it's plugin related but i've had the crash happening when using only Presonus plugins. Seen alot of reports on this on Facebook/Reddit.

Eventually gave up, and went back to 6 where i continue to not have any issues.

Interesting I have a Mac Studio, am on Sonoma and running 7.1.1 Not seeing any issues at all. Never crashed once. I know that does not help much. Maybe try installing 3rd party plugins one at a time to maybe narrow it down. Are you on the latest version of Sonoma? That is important for security reasons. (14.7.5) Try disconnecting your WiFi as well and see what happens. Have you installed your plugins in all their default locations?

Check your buffer and Dropout settings as well. V7 should be no different CPU wise compared to V6. Have you got any zero latency monitoring active (green Z) Turn it off if so.

While plug-ins seem the obvious thing, you might try looking at the hardware. Do you have any dongles or USB hubs? I saw an installation of S1 with Mac Studio recently where there was lots of random crashing. For some reason, it turned out to be a bad USB hub - once that was replaced everything returned to normal. Might be worth a try.

Good call. I recently had an issue with an underpowered hub. And the USB 3 socket actually shut down for a bit too on the Mac Studio. (this is what it will do to protect itself. I thought I needed to get it repaired but it just came back on after a while)

If you have got a hub you need to invest in a decent one. All ports switchable as well so you can turn things on and off. Also the hub should be 12V powered (not 5V) and the power supply should be 70 watts or higher. Once I did all this the few hub issues I had simply went away and never came back. The computer will also do weird things too with an underpowered hub as well.

Thanks everybody.

no hubs, plugins all in default locations. even disabled all VST and AU in Advanced settings>services to see if that had anything to do with it. latest version of Sonoma. Studio computer's wifi is always disconnected - just a work computer. only software on it is studio one, UA console and Softube Console. I do have 1 dongle - but it's ilok.

back on 6 and everything is fine.
