Installation on Win 10 20H2

Hello,

I just purchased Studio One Pro 7 and am unable to install it. I receive a dialog box indicating "This application requires Windows 10 or 11 22H2"... so am I correct in assuming it won't run on my current version unless I update Win 10? I really like the way my current version functions and would like to avoid updating.
Thanks for any tips!

Edit: Just checked my system settings and I currently have OS build 19042.867 which is version 20H2

If an update is imperative, what is the recommended way of performing this task efficiently? Thx...

Please update your signature (see link and example in mine) to include your system specs as that helps to answer questions.

Here's the requirements for Studio One Pro 7...

I would recommend backing up what you have and update to the latest release.

This is pretty infuriating for those of us using a stable branch of Windows 10 like LTSC (and I think some EU versions) which will not detect as 22H2. For us, upgrading is simply *NOT* an option.

@lowerfreq - I'm willing to bet Studio One works perfectly fine on your ver of Windows 10 but the installer is just blocking you. Use something like 7zip to extract the installer archive and try running it to see if that works around the issue. In the meantime, I'm going to raise the issue on the official forums / tech support because this is the *FIRST* time this has happened to me. FL Studio, Reaper, etc. all have zero issues.

There really shouldn't be any practical reason why Studio One couldn't support 21H2 vs 22H2 - there's almost zero chance 22H2 introduced some fancy new API that a DAW just *has* to have.

Thx for your replies...

Well, I decided to update to 22H2... So far so good with S1, though I'm having a few other issues with 22H2 seeing external drives, but that has nothing to do with the DAW, so I will continue to compare the two OS versions and see if there are any other performance issues... I completed a system image back up in case I change my mind.

Salud!

LTSC is an extremely specialized version of Windows that no consumer can actually purchase.

But if you are using it and are legitimately licensed for it - then your company should know the scenarios it is designed for and deploy them accordingly.

A DAW is not one of them.

The practical reason is that 21H2 went end of life (June 11, 2024) and is now officially retired by Microsoft. If they will not support it - no vendor can either.

This is no different than Apple shutting the door (as they always do) on an OS they released just three years ago.

22H2 is as rock solid as it gets. You will have no issues with it whatsoever.

Cheers

Maybe so but I got it through the Open Business licensing program and later when we discontinued our company we had these remaining licenses. Frankly it's not up to you to decide what is and is NOT a legitimate use of a licensed copy of Windows 10 LTSC.

And as I said earlier - it runs reaper and FL Studio all without issues.

Just like it is NOT up to you to rant on Presonus about which versions of Windows they have decided are legitimately supported for use with Studio One.

The supported versions are crystal clear. Gently suggest you consider moving to one of them.

This is how we provide constructive criticism - by suggesting that other people's scenarios (such as mine) differ from yours who can freely update to the latest version of Windows 10. There are also other people with extenuating circumstances in other countries that may prevent people from using versions of windows 10 (GDPR specifc) that may prevent the ID from showing as 22H2.

With respect, try putting yourself in other people's shoes instead of defending a rather arbitrary requirement for a company which you aren't even associated with (either in creation or development).

Respectfully - I understand your situation. And that would extend to anyone else with extenuating circumstance.

However - the bottom line remains constant - Studio One is not supported under that OS.

We told you what need to do but you do not like the answer. I cannot help that.

You will need to change to a supported OS or stick with what you've got and not upgrade.
