How to get a gentle smooth sound for lapsteel guitar?

Hiya,

I was wondering how I can get in Studio One 7 Pro , on my Lapsteel guitar a gentle smooth sound, does anyone know?
Is this a matter of amp or pedals or both?

Other than how you play, it needs EQ I guess. Pedal effects tend to add an edge which is what you don't want. So I'd try Pro EQ and an approach similar to taming vocals. You can also experiment with a slow noise gate/expander to soften the leading edge of notes played.

Also, how are you recording? Through a microphone or directly into your interface?
I'm not that experienced with reamping but I'd get the sound right at the source first. With a decent not overly priced dynamic mic (sm57 for example), you'll likely get a reasonably accurate representation in your recording..

I play with my Lapsteel guitar connected with volumepedal, into the interface Presonus audiobox 96.

I putt the Pro EQ in but I mis the experience to work with it.
The thing is, that Gilmour has long tones and even that Ive put compressor, chorus, delay, reverb in it, I just cant get the sound, cause when I turned the knob up some more, I hear a little background sound, like the Drive is on.
I looked it up and they say Gilmour also putt a little drive and Wah wah in it, but that gave an awefull sound, so I figured that it must work for Gilmour, but not for me.

To try and duplicate what you are hearing from his recordings you would need to know the exact instrument used, which pick ups, the strings, any customization to the instrument first.

Good tone starts with the instrument, then the amp. Plugging in to your interface will be boring.
To me his tone is 90% instrument/ amp and then basic effects. And it doesnโ€™t hurt to have some of the best sound technology and crew on hand as well.
A small tube amp on the edge would get you closer. Fender Princeton or Deluxe.

Love a lap steel or pedal steel. The very nature of the instrument is very sustained and typically clean. But sure, try an FX send with a convo reverb or delay. That will prove to be pretty dreamy. ๐Ÿ
Have fun.

I meant to add, but forgot. You probably know and do this, but using a volume pedal on a lap steel (effectively like a pedal steel) is huge when it comes to expression.

Which lap steel guitar do you have?

Yea, I bought a volumepedal together with mij Lapsteel and I used it never before but when you get better with it, it really pays off.
Ive got the SX lg2 lap steel guitar. Its a good one for not too much money.
It has 6 strings and P90.

Btw, what about to add a Tube driver pedal, cause the reason I started with the Lapsteel is because of Gilmour.
This song is what its about: watch?v=7jMlFXouPk8
