How to achieve a "Pause" function when using the "Return to Start on Stop" option

Many of you, especially those doing a lot of editing, often use the "Return to Start on Stop" option, which resets the play cursor to the last start position when playback stops.

Recently, someone on Facebook asked how to achieve a "Pause" function - stopping playback without resetting the play cursor - even with "Return to Start on Stop" enabled.

I’ve just uploaded a new video showing how to create a simple macro that gives you the best of both worlds: pause and play without resetting, while still keeping the "Return to Start on Stop" functionality. You can trigger the macro from a toolbar button, a keyboard shortcut, or a MIDI controller, making it super flexible.

For those already familiar with macros, here's how the macro looks like - it couldn’t be simpler:

For everyone else, here’s the video:

I sometimes find it a bit of a challenge to come up with a unique key command that works in the context of other similar commands and is not already assigned (and that I have a chance of remembering). I set up "ALT-Spacebar" for this pause function, to complement the regular play/stop "Spacebar" key command. Works beautifully. Very clever Lukas. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'll make great use of it. 👍
