How are you getting along with Studio One Seven? Pros - Cons, development.....

Hey All,
Well, this is all very cool going forward, and to be honest, I've been pretty exuberant about Studio One Seven. I have a release coming out in the next few days, and I really got a chance to put the clip launcher through its paces with 7/4, and 6/8 time signatures. I'm no expert with any clip launcher, but I feel this feature has come to Studio One at a great time. At least for me. Particularly with ambient, progressive, latin, and jazz genres. There are LOTS of interesting percussion possibilities this way!

I'll share the link for the release shortly, but I was curious how you are all getting along with Studio Onen 7, in general?

Would enjoy hearing what your up to, or your fav new features.

To be honest, I haven't even used the new Loop feature much yet, or the Tempo Detect, but I know I will be.

i HOPE i am still up to 5 foot 7 3/4 inches but with my age i am afraid i may be shrinkin'

in the military (shaved and barefooted) i begged them to give me an additional 1/4 inch so i would be 5 foot 8 inches but they said no... at least i got them to laugh

as for S1... i am still on v5 and v6 lol have two licenses and have always leap frogged them. v5 would be up to bat to upgrade but i feel that won't be happening.

anyways i am glad to be here among some friends and i wish you all well

cheers all

Better then in the military than now. At least you still have your XY chromosomes! (Ouch, that even hurts to type). Glad you're here, man.

Anyway, back on track. Id like to hear what others are up to with version 7, or your fav new features as you've now had a little time to explore them.

My take, on ver 7, it's pretty solid. I've managed "pilot error" crash it once or twice. Recent upgrade of equipment and not reading the manual again Duh!
One day I will learn that knowing what you are doing is the way to go.
On a slightly political note I am glad that SO1 is supporting CLAP and DAW exchange !

As for the looper I am trying to work out I how to set up a control surface without having to try and fit another brick on my desk.
But SO far it's good, time is a headache I need to solve.

Regards

Awesome. Oh, I'm an expert in the field of non manual reading. Although with music equipment, one should read those manuals first or risk some ugly consequences. Lol. Glad S1-v7 is coming along. The clip launch is a gas! (And not in the gear acquisition sense). ; )

I am putting v7 thru it's paces but I am still baffled by the odd colorization of event blocks - specifically when editing dialog.

I have been hacking away here for 10 days now trying to replicate my v6.6.4 color schemes and it is just not an option. Still have to use v6.6.4 for client work.

Hoping a future update will give some clarity on why someone thought this (let's play "find the cursor"):

I recently dropped an old synth I had in a cupboard and blew half the cash on an MP Midi, some folk argue it's expensive my cupboard is happy tho'.

This things damn useful and the support is good. I had a few hiccups getting it to work and they stuck with me.
So no worries there. I'm hoping they're gonna dev an SO 1 surface, then I will be set until I shake off this mortal skin.
Take care and best regards.

I don't know if you've tried this already, but it's the first change I had to make after installing SO7 and being unable to see anything clearly.

Studio One | Options | General | Appearance

For the "Background", I set Saturation and Contrast to 100% (sliders full right) and for "Arrangement", I set Contrast to 100%. I'm not sure if I changed "Luminance" or not, but they're set to -36% and -15% respectively.

Hey - this is great! Made a few adjustments to your numbers and it is a lot better than it was. Dare I say - workable now!

Here is what I went with:

How is the difference between a selected event and an unselected one? One thing that I always struggle with in v6 is the lack of difference between the two in comparison to pt and Logic. I suspect that the boundary around a selected event makes things much easier? That being said looking forward to a trial version.

For me- if I select the bottom half of any event - it's "lights on" and my cursor was disappearing.

Here is a typical event - when clicked in the upper half:

Normal and usable.

Here is the same event - but selecting the bottom half of the event:

S1 puts a thick highlight around the whole thing - which is fine - but the color selection is super bright and just barely usable for the cursor.

I get the new event border - but I do not understand this need for brightness. Not only do I not know where this color is coming from (or why this specific one) - but it cannot be changed or adjusted either.

My contrast and settings look similar to Vocalpoint's. Don't try to duplicate version 6 settings. It will be close, but the contrast seems just week on v7. And as VP has mentioned, the selected event is just way too bright. I suspect that will come down, but this is a new MAJOR release, look, and now new forum. So it's up to users like us to make it known. You can start a new thread, and the subject will be visible, so by all means, go for it. 👍

FWIW I am loving 7. I really love the launcher but I am still just experimenting to better understand what it can do, and what I can use it for. I liken it to opening up a new soft synth with a billion or two presets, and I have to try....each......one. lol it's a hoot.

But yes the colours suck. Anybody have any success getting some settings that work in V7 for a LIGHT theme?

So far I'm liking the upgrade. although I haven't gotten far with Launcher. For some reason I can't get my head in that mode. I'll keep trying though 'cause I don't want to miss out!!

I've never found a color scheme for SO that I'm completely happy with, just what I can live with. Same with Reaper themes.

Hi AAV,
I think a good video or two should clarify. Don't think of the launcher even needing any presets or controls. It's a drag and drop or press play button affair. Try bringing in parts of a chorus section, or an intro, like percussion, and blending that with a verse.the playhead marker starting at the verse Sometimes, some changes can be very musical that you weren't expecting. You can choose clips (single entities) from the launcher, or playlists. It's like riding a bicycle. You just have to pedal with a little care. I think Gregor had a descent startup video on that. I can't speak for any others at the moment.
Soft synths are way deeper. Of course both can be very musical. : )

I tried years ago fooling with Ableton Live, and I couldnt deal with it. With Studio One, it's all dress-right-dress. So from arrangement to launch to scratchpad, it's pretty intuitive, and tracks remain in line. Still, if it doesn't feel right, so be it. There might be a time you find something gells when using it.
