Solved Help with event separation

coro

Active member
hey all!

don't even know how to call this so not sure what to search lol

is it possible, whenever I split a region, to separate the events instead of what happens on the 2nd picture?

1- I split a region
2- currently if I try to separate them the split point changes and they still remain adjacent
3- this is what I'd need to happen

Thanks!!

Thanks Lukas,
unfortunately I have no idea how to call this XD

what I'm after is going from picture 1 to picture 3. (I need a gap between one event and the other)
As of now, whenever I drag the split point, (pic 2) they never separate (no silence gap is created as in pic 3).

Hope that makes sense

I'm still not completely sure that the exact issue is. Is the gap closed automatically? If so, you have probably Ripple Edit enabled and need to disable it in the toolbar.

If you hover your mouse over the split about halfway up or so and move it slightly to the left or right the arrow should change from a <> arrow to a single sided arrow <> and then you can move just that one clips boundary

that's the one!
Thanks Reginald and Lukas 🙏

is there a way to disable this behavior by any chance? I don't really see any specific use I'd need it for.

Not that I know of. Though there might be some modifier key (Ctrl, Alt, shift) that does that?

Is the Link button (left bracket) enabled?
If so, disabling it should take care of that behavior however please note that many customers prefer the workflow benefits it provides.

Link Button
The bracket-shaped button on the left side of the toolbar is the Link button. Click it to combine the Arrow and Range tools. When it is
engaged, the mouse operates as Range tool in the area above the horizontal center line of the Event, whereas the Arrow tool is available
in the area below the center line. This combination of tools is available at track heights of Normal or higher.

Thank you all!
now that I know I already got used to it.
As Trucky mentioned, the link option is too precious to be dropped
