Good time to upgrade to latest version?

Does the upgrade path from older versions to the latest Studio One Pro go on sale? Is there a particular time of year I should look out for it, and are there certain retailers that have it cheaper than buying from PreSonus directly? I’ve been happy with V5, but I quite fancy Harmony Wizard which unfortunately is not compatible with version 5 (or at least that is what I believe).

Thanks

Just my opinion. I've never seen blockbuster sales at some time of the year for Studio One. While I fully understand budget concerns and have my own as well, I think it's best to get what you need now.
With that, version 5 is excellent and has all of the essentials, so if that's good for you, you could wait for that meh, sale.
Only here's why you shouldnt. With version 7, Presonus has opened the flood gates on Studio One accessories. From the 3 new sample players, plus the Orchestral sample pack (around $80), the Presence Editor (about $80), the conversion pack, etc, etc. Add to that, the new bersion 7 clip launcher, auto stem export, auto-tempo, and as you can see, waiting for some $20-$30 savings is like waiting for a midnight bus, to get you to the show late, to save a few dollars.
Others might have a different perpective, but this new version 7 is undoubtedly the biggest leap in accessories and freebies. Granted, you may not care for them. I'd honestly buy right now.

To answer the specific question: as far as I know, there have been no sales in recent years that offered more than 30% off.
The best opportunities (but not exclusively) are around Black Friday in November and the end of the year. The latter was the case at the end of 2024, when I finally bought my upgrade.

Hear what you’re saying, thank you. I used to update as a matter of course, but in my particular case, I couldn’t see anything in 6 or 7 that I would use much. This, coupled with a desire to reign in GAS has meant holding off till now.

That is the litmus test. If nothing in a newer version floats your boat - stick with what you have.

Re the OP, if your major reason to upgrade is using Harmony Wizard, I did a blog post on an easy way to create major and minor harmonies in Studio One. Of course, this technique is not even close to doing what Harmony Wizard can do, but the scale-related features in Studio One provide some assistance in creating harmonies. I'm not sure if they're in Studio One 5 or not, hopefully they are.

Thanks Craig, just read your blog and that’s a great tip. Often the simplest things are the best. I’ll check if it’s possible in Studio One 5 (edit: no option to select ‘scale’ under ‘note color’ in V5 😕…I’m kidding myself about not updating, I will eventually)
