Getting Studio One Remote from Wifi to wired computer

I have tried several things and searched the internets for solutions and haven't got anything to work yet.

Setup: Wifi network (192.168.2.x) connected to a Ubiquity switch where the Wifi Router is on one port through a vlan( 20). My daw computer is wired to another switch port with a network address of 192.168.1.x.

I want to use Studio One Remote on my Android phone to control my DAW computer.

I have found the UDP port that the remote uses and tried to make sure it gets forwarded (switch configuration) from the wifi network to the wired network but still no luck.

I know this is complex, and Ubiquity software is even more complicated, but are there any suggestions?

Hmm, this should be easy. The one requirement is that both devices (computer and phone) must be on the same LAN. Then set Studio One to be 'findable' and Studio One Remote should find it. Maybe start simple with just a WiFi router wired to the computer? That would exclude your current network setup from the equation for now.

Yes, I am quite sure that if the DAW computer was on the WIFI it would connect just fine. I actually had done that before "wiring" my computer. I suppose I could just connect to the WIFI when I want to use the remote.

However, I was wondering if there were suggestions getting it to work with my current setup. Networking wise I can see no reason that it shouldn't work given enough information about which ports and messages to forward between the two networks. However, maybe Presonus doesn't release this type of information.

The computer doesn't have to use WiFi but it must be connected (thru UTP cable) to the same network the phone's connected to (thru WiFi). One on one network and the other on another won't work as Studio One Remote won't find Studio One that way. So basically the network used by your computer must have WiFi.

My knowledge is quite rusty here, but as long as your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, both ip address areas DON‘T know each other. I don’t know the specifics of your router, but either you can put the into the same subnet, or you can configure your router to forward data between both subnets.

Yes, this is more what I was thinking. I could try to update the subnets to see if that works.

I have tried some forwarding, udp port 47809 specifically, but either I have the config wrong or there is more that would have to be forwarded.

Well, it‘s difficult to give any suggestions here. Because no one really knows that router (except through intensive study of the manual), and no one knows the reasoning behind your current setup. Any advice which makes this specific use case work, could break another one in your setup. E.g., why did you separate WiFi from Ethernet with two different subnets? By chance? By accident? By purpose?

I must admit, this question is probably a corner case on a music and music technology centered forum. You could seek help in forums with stronger focus on network administration, or contact your router manufacturer. I have sometimes had good experiences with ChatGPT if you ask the right questions.

I agree with your comments. I have looked at more networking related sites. Was just wondering if anyone had had tried this before. Please consider this answered unless someone has more specific information.

One thing I did think of is that it may not be possible to "hop" or forward the studio one remote discovery messages because it may only specify one hop in the discovery. In that case no amount of forwarding would get it from one network to another.

As an aside: I choose to separate the wired and wireless networks based on suggestions from the network equipment manufactures (Ubiquiti) tutorials and setup guides. I am no network expert but I guess separating them is supposed to help with security and efficiency of the network, especially if you have a "guest" wifi network that you don't want to have access to the wired devices.
