Discussion Thread for "The Huge Book of Studio One Tips and Tricks" and My Blog Posts

Thank you for following up! I've shared your post with my contact at PreSonus who deals with the blogs. It's working for me here in the US, so I had assumed the problem was fixed.

It seems to work here for me (in Canada) Craig, except for the article on "The Tightener" which still leads to a 404 Not Found.

I get redirected to eu.presononus.com...
Same as @Crossinger 's results. I do get a landing page, but any other link with eu.xxxxx will go to a not found 404 page.

The Studio One forum has graciously offered this sticky as a home for questions, comments, and suggestions regarding The Huge Book of Studio One Tips & Tricks. This thread's purpose has also been expanded to provide support for questions regarding my PreSonus blog posts. The new blog format doesn't allow for commenting, but I've always welcomed your feedback and look forward to more in the future.

Back to the eBook...it's available from Sweetwater Publishing as a bundle that includes a PDF of the eBook itself along with audio examples, presets, FX Chains, and Track Presets

Lke Studio One, the eBook continues to evolve. Also like Studio One, purchasers are entitled to free “point” updates. (If there’s ever a major rewrite to create a new edition, it will be available to existing owners at a reduced price.) So far, there have been 7 major, free updates since the book was introduced. The updates include new tips, but older tips are often revised to reflect changes in Studio One, or to improve functionality.

Doing updates turns the book into an interactive experience. I don’t claim to know everything! Many of your suggestions have been incorporated in subsequent versions, but you’re also encouraged to ask questions if there are aspects that could be clearer. My goal is to make this eBook a valuable reference and most importantly, a source of inspiration for all Studio One users. I welcome your participation in this thread to help further
Craig, thanks for your dedication to creating a resource like this. I just purchased it, even though I was going to wait for the upcoming revision. I figured I'd start getting value sooner rather than later.

For feedback, I was disappointed to not see anything on leveraging scratch pad for creative workflow (similar to your great section on Ripple Edit for intros).

In fact, leveraging the arranger track in general would be a great addition to gain some workflow efficiency insights from you in the book!

Thanks

These are EXCELLENT suggestions, and the raison d’être for this thread (other than the support element). I use the Arranger track all the time for songwriting and have a few cool tricks, so a tip based around that is probably a good place to start.

Due to a workflow that works for me (but that I don't recommend), I have not really gotten into Scratch Pads. But this is something I've wanted to explore, and your suggestion is a hint that it's time to do so.

Thanks again! Suggestions are always welcome. I was working on the new version today but it's quite an overhaul, on many levels. I'm hoping for a late September release. September 2025, to be specific :)

Nice! One way that it's fun to use scratch pads for is creating arranger sections in scratch pads and then having different variations of them on hand to drag from the arranger inspector. Or preview from the inspector for sequencing.

Sadly still getting page 404 not found errors with Craig's blogs

Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about that and it's doubtful that PreSonus will do a fix. There was a cutoff point before which PreSonus nuked all my blog posts (September 2022 IIRC). Many of the posts that were newer than the cutoff point had links to posts that were before the Death Date. Since those posts no longer exist, you'll get 404s. But again, let me emphasize that all of the older posts are not only in the eBook, but they've been updated, improved, and revised to be current with newer versions of Studio One. So if you have the eBook, you aren't missing anything from the older blog posts...except for seeing what Studio One's user interface looked like in 2018 ;)

And, thus far, I've not found a single 404 error in the book ;)

I still do see them at the PreSonus website though. Sometimes a refresh works, curious as it is. Most of the times the URL gets resolved to a .eu. subdomain. With enough refreshes i might get asked where I reside on Planet Earth and that might trigger a positive url resolve to an actual blogpost. Perhaps someone with actual internet knowledge knows how to actually do it properly, but maybe refreshing will work for others with this problem as well.

If you bought the book originally from the PreSonus web shop, there's no real mechanism in place for the free updates that Sweetwater delivers. However, I've sent a copy of the book to the person who runs the PreSonus shop, and asked if he could take care of customers on a case-by-case basis. I don't know how much longer PreSonus will take care of updating people, that's out of my control.

Just wanted to let you know there's a free 21st Century Phaser FX Chain download in my latest blog post.

Here's an addendum to my tip on gain-staging. When adjusting channel level trims with the Input controls, and you have a VU meter as the first insert for all the inserts in your mixer channels, updating the song's mastering file runs through the song quickly and you can see at a glance where all your levels are sitting.
