Unfortunately, the Presonus Version of Saturation Knob no longer works with Apple Silicon Macs (albeit it should, considering its version number). And the official Softube download requires iLok (which I despise abysmally).
 
I hear ya...Apple Silicon is also what killed ReWire. Oh well.

Re the official Softube download, computer authorization stores the license on your computer's hard drive. You don't need a dongle or internet connection once it's activated, but the authorization is tied to a specific machine. If that's still a dealbreaker, the Redlightdist does the job. The only reason why I didn't use it is because it consumes more CPU power than the Saturation Knob. I can design a Redlightdist-specific version if there's sufficient demand.

And Trucky - thanks for mentioning the Super Saturator! I use it a lot. Also, thanks for hosting this thread so I can hear comments like the one from Crossinger. People are welcome to post any questions/comments/kudos/complaints about my blog post tips here.
 
Hi Craig, thanks for your reply and your kind offer. I have to correct my previous info: when I did my first research, I was sure that the version 2.5.5 (that is currently provided by Presonus for download) should be Apple Silicon ready. But I did a re-check and the official information is now that the Softube plugins starting from 2.5.38 are supporting AS natively. Pity, but that’s the way it is.

If I really want to use Saturation Knob natively with AS, I still have the “fallback” via Reason Rack Plugin. Probably overkill, but still…😄
 
I'm running the latest Free VST3 release available on Softube's website and Softube Central.
They say their plugins support Apple Silicon...

Yes, I know, but the beauty of the Presonus version was the lack of any copy protection (being tied to my Presonus user account was the copy protection). And Presonus is currently stuck on 2.5.5.

Just bought the eBook and started wading through it - thanks very much for the work that went into producing it, and I'm looking forward to the updated v7 information, whenever that comes.

I hope you find the book helpful! The next update requires substantial revisions, due to eliminating the information that relates to the Artist version. However, this should simplify the overall experience. So I'm on a parallel path of adding new tips while revising old ones. I don't have an ETA, but I'm hoping for early September.
 
Craig, thanks for yet another inspiring blogpost. As I'm not a synthesized performer the presets of the last post aren't much of my concern, but in general it would be fantastic to be able to have them linked in the blogposts, as you suggested. If this helps, here's my +1 vote..
 
Thanks for the feedback! If you've seen earlier blog posts you'll know I do include presets sometimes, but I couldn't get a sense of whether people actually scrolled dow to the end, downloaded, and tried the preset. Well, I know at least one person does for sure :)

Indeed! I'm having a lot of fun with the super saturator lately...
I was just responding to your request in the blog post and generally venting my appreciation of your efforts..
 
Just a quick note to thank CA for putting together the Huge Book!

It meets and surpasses the "O'Reilly Standard" in every respect; it is simply one of the most thorough, readable, immediately-usefull examples of this sort of book that I've ever seen. And the idea of implementing the versioning system is both timely and welcome.

Thanks for the props! v2.2 is well on its way. It's taken longer than usual between updates, because I needed to remove all the material that related exclusively to Artist. There are a few other changes. I've been researching ADA and WCAG guidelines to make the books more accessible to those with visual challenges. For example, different text colors have replaced using overlays to differentiate text, and I must say, I think it looks cleaner overall for everyone reading the book on a mobile platform.

I've said it before, but I gotta say it again...as an author, being able to update and improve books is fantastic. Incorporating what I've just learned into older tips is wonderful, too.

Please remember that any suggestions for future content, corrections, and other feedback are always welcome!

I was asked what advantage the pop control method in the Super-Effective P-Pop Control blog post has over just isolating a pop and reducing its level. If you only need to reduce a couple pops, there's no advantage. However, if there are multiple pops, there are two main advantages:

  • It's faster. Instead of having to adjust the level for each pop, you can adjust the levels of all of them at once. If you decide you want more or less of the "p" sound, you can tweak the level of the polarity-reversed track.
  • It can be less sonically obtrusive. An advantage of having the pops on a separate track is that you can select all of them, and add a fadein or fadeout so that the pop sounds more "faded out" than cut. This is something I should have mentioned in the tip, but it fell through the cracks.

I'm working on a related, but somewhat different, technique for dealing with acoustic guitar string squeaks. If it works well, I'll write a post about it.
 
Not sure what's wrong with the presonus site but the majority of Craig's blog posts results in 404 Page Not Found. His most recent compression pumping article is doing that

Looks like the site admins have borked the configuration: If you have national redirections, e.g. when opening "www.presonus.com" it gets redirected to "de.presonus.com", then the blog pages are not found anymore. If you edit the url and replace the national subdomain with standard "www", then it works again.

Thanks for the heads up. I did not realize they posted a new blog post today, I'll let PreSonus know there's an issue. Meanwhile, that workaround was some cool troubleshooting/ detective work :)
 
I noticed they still don't translate bullet points correctly :( That's hard to read...
 
Seems they fixed the URL issue. Let me know if anyone is still experiencing it.
