10 years ago I quit my career as a sound engineer and started writing songs for myself and friends.
I bought cheap guitars (Ibanez SA series - EUR150 etc) and bass, a Presonus Audiobox USB sound card and a Presonus MK8 microphone. Also a Roland PC-180A MIDI keyboard. Also Steven Slate drums 4, Presonus Studio One.
I can't sing at all, so please be lenient, and I play all the instruments a little.
Everything you hear was recorded at home on the mentioned devices. All live through the Audiobox USB line in.

Wow John, funny how you downplay your abilities. :p
I never new your history... thanks for sharing!

I've liked all your stuff over the years and have many links to your stuff... and your singing is fine to me*.
This is another nice one -nice layout and mix too!

Looks like you reposted many of them on YouTube w/ lyrics... wonderful.
Now we can get them in one place together.

*They say Bob Dylan and Tom Petty can sing and by their song volume, it seems most would agree.
But I don't care for their sing/speak much at all.

I am amazed. Many of my songs have been listened to? Thank you for the flattering review. I am very pleased.
I use my songs to experiment with sound. That's why the sound is constantly changing. But now I'm tired of it and I'm posting everything on YouTube. Let it stand. I'll work on my book, fishing and travel.
Thanks again, buddy.

Nice son g and good mix! One thing, which is regarding your vocal. I think you are trying to cover something up that doesn't need covering up. It's over compressed and over saturated in my opinion and I think it deserves to be purer sounding. Even if you need to do some pitch correction (I do that too, just so you know) I think vocals need to sound like vocals. Maybe you used a trick where you do parallel processing on the top end but it's too loud in the mix? It sounds like as soon as your voice sounds there is also some white noise being triggered. But again, apart from that, I really like this and that is coming from someone who will walk out of a venue when the band plays blues. I hate it with a passion. But not your version of it!

Thanks, buddy. Yes, you're right about the vocals. First of all, they were recorded with a cheap (EURO 40) microphone. There's no normal amplitude there. That's why I still haven't found the right processing options and I'm not happy with the result. And since I'm just recording for friends, it doesn't bother me too much.
Thanks for the comment.
