Crossfeed setup for headphones

Hi,

Is there any way to combine some stock plugins to get signal crossfeed on the main out so it resembles studio monitors? I'm not interested in buyinng software made specifically for that like CanOpener.

MixFX has crossfeed parameters as well as others.

All I can say is that Can Opener wasn't that expensive, and coupled with Morphit (which compensates for the soundshape of headphone make and type) does make headphone monitoring similar to the experience on studio monitors. So it works.

CanOpener does what you want, I think - it works for me anyway.

What do you intend to use it for? Is it to make things sound 'nicer' or 'more natural' or is it to actually mix and master songs? A bit of panning and EQ-ing goes a long way but for mixing/mastering any mistake here will lead you astray. Buying a good plugin will be money well spent.

It seems I need to explain "crossfeed". This is not intended to be included in the mix. It's to replicate how I would perceive it as if I'm listening to monitor speakers. When listening to monitors, each ear hears BOTH left and right channel. On headphones you just hear left with the left ear and right with the right ear. You have a false perception of space on headphones. With crossfeed, some of the left is added to the right channel and vice versa. You would put something like Can Opener on the listening bus.

Yes, we get all that. Binaural panning will do that for you, as a post/listen insert. But it will not be enough to get a reliable 'as if I'm listening to monitor speakers' experience by quite a long stretch. Much more is needed for that, as provided by purpose-built plugins. Can you replicate that with the stock plugins provided by PreSonus? Probably, but expect to spend hours if not days to get it even close to right. And any mistake here will mean that you'll be mixing your mixes under false pretences. So again: what's the purpose?

I specifically said in my original post that I'm only interested in a stock solution. Thanks
Okay - only trying to help. Your choice.....

Thing is, when you mix with a crossfeed plugin like can opener and do not try to mix on headphones as well you will get a problem as most people will listen to music these days with headphones that don’t simulate crossfeed. So your mix that has been done in your headphones with crossfeed will be like the old Beatles stereo records in worst case, as you will have some stuff exclusively left or right but wouldn’t really notice unless not mixing with the crossfeed plugin. So in my experience it’s even more important to mix on headphones for headphones and compare to the monitor signal to get the best of bo5 worlds. And to answer your question: there is no stock solution in Studio One.
